So, about 4 days ago, I started getting a sore throat, didn't think much of it.
Next day, it got REALLY sore, and got tough to swallow, figured it'd be fine if I slept on it.
Next day, REALLY sore and swollen!
Fast forward to today and it's even more sore and swollen, I'm at the point where it's getting more difficult to breathe. I've barely eaten or drunk anything in days.
I also can't see my doctor as the Uni Health Services are closed until Tuesday. :

I can also see a huge solid lump on the outside of my neck!

If needed, I can get a picture of the back of my throat.

    Aw, Miiaaaaa. (*hug*)

Wondering if maybe this is an allergic reaction of some sort. Do you have any allergies you know of? I'm allergic to cashews and being exposed to them can make me swell up like a pneumatic tire.

Also thinking it could maybe be an infection of some kind (lymph nodes?). In any event, possible you can get yourself to ER or at least a clinic? Your description sounds kind of worrisome. Please take care of yourself. :frowning2:

I'm not allergic to anything that I know of. And I don't think I've been exposed to something that I haven't already been exposed to.

And yeah, infection is most likely. I don't think there's a walk in centre near me though and not registered with the big hospital. :/

    I'ma upload a picture.

I think it's worse further down, but that's all I could get a pic of.

Mia, please take care of yourself. Not sure how things work in Wales, but surely there is some kind of medical practitioner you can visit? Don't mess around with infections, they can be lethal.

Do you jave a taste of puss in your mouth when you swallow? Its the minging taste?

It could be a Strep Throat there are a lot of them around ATM in the UK and Ireland, I had one the other week and it only went away with anti-biotics.

Go to the walk-in please, the infection can spread to your heart valves.

The fact that your glands are swollen (the lump) sounds like that. There should be a out of hours service in your area. Google for it.

    No, there's no puss taste.
And according to google, there is no walk in.
And I'll get the number for the out of hours thing soon.

    It could be tonsillitis.
If you hold your tongue down and look in your throat (careful of the gag reflex) is it swollen/red/pussy on either side at the back?
I suffer with it really bad and it wipes me out for days.
If nothing is open - try A&E. I had to go in over Easter Weekend to get penicillin (best thing ever) and I had to be kept in or whatever because they were worried I'd stop breathing but sidetracked - they should be able to give you penicillin no worries.
Also, ice cream/jelly products are really soothing if you are struggling to eat.
    Hope you feel better soon!

Okay its not a strep infection, but you have some form of infection on your glands hence the swelling.

But definatly go for the out of hours, its whats it there fore, and well once they get you on anti-biotic s things will get a lot better very quickly and you can probably enjoy the long weekend more

It's alright, I went to a minor health unit and said it's probably just a viral infection and to just wait it out.

If it's still really bad on Tuesday, I'll go in.

Doctors won't tell you this, but gargling with Hydrogen Peroxide will kill the bacteria and if you put a few drops in your ears it can help get rid of infections until you're able to go to the doctor. Although, I will say that in my experience I don't need to go to the doctor afterwards.

Damn viral ones are untreatable, you just have to ride it out.

    *Hugs*

Try getting some corsodil mouthwash and gargling it, the stuff will numb your throat for hours great stuff

Did the clinic do a strep test? If not, have one done today please? This looks very painful. :frowning2: Even if it hurts, try to keep hydrated properly, milkshakes or smoothies might be good to get some fluids and calories in. Make sure not to let yourself run a fever, either.

I'm sorry, hon, feel better. (*hug*)
