I was going to post this anonymously but meh... It's a thing that's happening and it's not my fault anyway...

So, I have had irregular menstrual cycles for as long as I can recall (started at age 9). By irregular, I mean that over the years, I have sometimes missed periods all together, had 2-day periods, had no PMS/ cramping/ bloating, had severe cramps, lad 9-day periods, etc. However, the flow was never really "off." This has changed over the past year or so and during the past 6 months, they've gotten really strange.

Basically, the following has been happening: I have had extremely heavy flow (as in, I have bled through multiple layers of fabric + pad several times). In the past two cycles, I've also had frequent (> 4 times/ daily) very large (2-8 inches in length and 1-3 inches in diameter, sometimes branching) blood clots. WebMD says that clots this size may indicate health problems (or just wonky hormones - also very hairy + small Adam's apple but not on T). Three women in my immediate family have had endometriosis and a fourth had ovarian cancer. I know that I have ovarian cysts because they showed up on a lumbar MRI about 7 years ago but I've never looked into it.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing/ know anything about it? Do I have to go to the lady doctor? :tears: I thought I could wait until I got married... :frowning2:

With something this bad, it would be in your best interest to at least talk to your general care provider.

Does it really sound that bad?? I don't know what's "normal" when it comes to this sort of thing... >.<

Clots that large, and periods that random are not normal. Everyone is different, but at least talk to your general doctor, because that really isn't a good thing at all.

    Hey!

I had a problem like that before, it was only temporary and the doctor put it down to weight change and hormones (I'd gone through a period of stress so she said it was unlikely). It's normal for it to happen from time to time, but you might want to check with your lady doctor if you are worried, just to rule everything out!

Family history may indicate it is worthwhile, but many things can be the cause so don't immediately think the worse  I would recommend getting looked at so you feel more at ease.

    Hope this helps!

Considering your age, if you've never had a pelvic exam, you seriously need to get one. Just because we see ourselves as men, doesn't mean we can ignore the parts we were born with.

That said, if the clots are something new, you should go see your doctor about it.

But I thought that you could wait until 30 if you were still a virgin... :tears::tears:

Yeah, I'm thinking that it's hormonal... I have been super stressed and also changed weight and stuff so, maybe?

I don't have a lady doctor because I'm not a lady and I don't want to go... :bang:

The fact that you've always had reproductive issues means that you should be going yearly. I've honestly never heard the 30 year thing, but a pelvic exam is require for birth control, and birth control is the current reason why I don't have the monthly bullshit.

I don't want birth control, though... And the 30 year old thing is because of fertility issues, etc. that tend to arise after 20's. Of course, I had somewhat precocious puberty so, that might have sped things up a bit. Still, I'm a straight, pretty close to stone guy who's never had sex (or even kissed someone!) so, going to a gynecologist would be extremely emotionally traumatic, especially since I don't have a girlfriend/ wife to even get any support or comfort from. I don't know. Maybe I'll just keep an eye on it and if it continues or worsens, go? >.< :bang: I don't know what to do...

In the end it's up to you how you feel about the "lady doctor". Some people go yearly, some when something is going wrong. That's who I am, if something is up, I'll go.

I mean unless it suddenly fixes itself, you probably need to bite the bullet and go. As harsh as that sounds. But it's up to you.

Sounds like me. Almost exactly, actually.

Regarding the 30 year thing, I think that's only for mammograms not pelvic exams. Especially if you're having unusual periods. It's good to have things checked out in that area regardless of sexual activity. I know it's scary as hell but you should get checked out.

When I had a lady doctor they never did find a cause - however - I haven't been in several years and it's only gotten worse. I'll be seeing one when my medical plan goes active next month.

Unfortunately with that I think you might have to go see a lady doctor. :frowning2: I know it's dysphoric, but you must take care of the body you have.

No. My two best female friends moved away. Only the guy is left.

Aww bummer. I'd say maybe he could go with you and just wait for you, but not sure how well that'd work out. :<

He's like my brother; I wouldn't subject him to an office full of women.

Just talked with my friend and she says it's normal so . Just gonna buy thicker pads, I guess!!

I'd really recommend you to see a Traditional Chinese Medicine therapist if available in your area. TCM can deal quite well with those kind of issues you described.

Aside from as those above have mentioned seeing a doctor also make sure to drink lots and lots of water throughout the month, especially in the fortnight leading up to your period as this can help with clots. But of course if there is an underlying medical condition this may be of limited help.

Judging by your age and family history, you should really go and see an obgyn. It could help prevent a lot of problems in the future. Besides you need to make sure everything is okay, because what you are describing doesn't sound normal to me.
