Can a male stop getting taller at fourteen?

Discussion in 'Physical & Sexual Health' started by PrinceFabulous, Jun 15, 2014.

  1. So like, I'm a fourteen year old male, and I'm 5'9. I haven't grown in about...A year or so. Is it possible I'm done growing? I quite like my height.

It's possible but I would wait a few years before coming to conclusions. Growth can come in spurts and it's really feasible you'll have another growth spurt or two. I knew a guy who was like 5'8" in the last year of high school, and he hadn't really grown ever since I'd known him in grade 10. I saw him a year later and he was like 6' :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

You COULD grow more, but my doctor says that most teenagers really stop growing two years after puberty.

I think the male body stops developing in the early/mid 20s. Height varies, but you might have a small growth spurt.

I didn't finish growing until I was 20 and in the military. I got off the airplane when I came home and my mom and dad didn't recognize me.

5'9" is a decent height, but only time will tell. You are taller at your age than I was... Then again, I am 6'1" now...

I kept growing all through high school.
    Everyone's different though.

Strangely, muscles (and resulting posture improvement) seem to effect your height as well when you get older. Not by a lot though. It's happened to me recently in my 30s.

I am the same height as you and I stopped growing at about 14.

I had a friend who was a little short guy all through high school. He was only anbout 5'2". I came back from college after freshman year and stopped at a gas station in my home town to fill up my car. A guy filling up at the next pump said "Hey Trev hows it going" I recognized the voice but not the guy. That little short guy I knew in high school was now about 6'2". He had grown about a foot since graduation.

It depends on your family. Ask the male members of your family about their growing patterns, they tend to follow down the line.

But generally, the chances are slim. Maybe for a very petite male or female, but I'm guess at 5"9 that is out of the question. Good luck, but the human body is terribly stubborn!

It's possible, but guys can keep growing into their early 20s. We also have later growth spurts than the ladies. I was short and shrimpy and didn't really grow until I was almost nineteen and shot up to 6'4". Also keep in mind your parents' height. Kids usually end up being somewhat taller and heavier than their parents, but if your parents are a couple of runts, you can kiss being tall goodbye!

It is possible for you to have another growthspurt, even if it is a year later.

I stopped growing when I was like, 15? I'm barely 5'4 and fine with it.

    I think I stopped growing at 14 or 15. I'm a shade under 5'10.
