For about the last year I've been getting extremely bad headaches. At first they happened about once every two weeks (which is probably pretty normal), but now I've gotten to the point where I'm having on average a headache four days out of the week. I try to use ibuprofen each time I get one, and lately they haven't been working at all, even though I'm taking the maximum amount (like you can take a max of two in a five hour period). My headaches worry my family because they happen so often, and my sister is always joking that I'm "popping pills".

It's become a real problem because I can barely focus when I have a bad headache, and I have a lot of stuff to do with school starting up. A few things that I've thought about that may be effecting/causing my headaches are stress, electronic use, and having my back/neck out of whack. But I've been continually having headaches throughout the summer when my stress levels are actually down (I have no homework to worry about), I've limited my electronic use but I still have headaches even when I hadn't used my phone/computer all day, and as for my back/neck I try to crack my neck when I get headaches and sometimes it helps for a bit, but the headache still stays around or becomes worse. I find that being in cars/buses I get bad headaches afterwards, so I thought that it may just be motion sickness. Yet, I still get extremely bad headaches without being in a car/bus all day.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what could cause really bad headaches? Sometimes it feels like my head is about to explode and I have to lay down for hours and not focus on anything. It's really starting to worry me because I just want them to stop :bang:

Some people have triggers for headaches (For me, it's heat and the sun), so if you know you have some and can reasonably avoid them at times, that's an option. Dehydration can also cause headaches, so it's good to make sure you're well-hydrated at all times. Beyond that, though, it really sounds like you've tried a fair few things and it hasn't really helped; I think you're well past a doctor's visit because there could be something else besides the obvious that's causing them. At the very least and if nothing else, a doctor would be more help than any of us for giving you tips on preventing and managing headaches, besides potentially pinpointing the causes in your cases.

    Hi Adarya

I think it could be worth keeping a headache diary for a month or so of everything that you eat and drink, the details of the headaches (i.e. dull or throbbing, front or back, extreme sensitivity to light, sound, or smell) , and perhaps the weather conditions . I have found that certain foods and drinks (other than alcohol) can trigger migraine headaches. Once you have collected a month or so of data you can look back and see if anything starts to look like a trigger, and that could be something you have eaten a few days before.

Even if you can’t find any link to food etc. the details of the headache you keep may be of help to a doctor in diagnosing your pain.

You should also be aware that some headache pills, if taken regularly, can actually cause headaches and lead to addiction.

    Hope you find some answers

That is too many headaches for too long. You need to see a doctor (maybe a neurologist). Won't necessarily be life threatening but you'll want to find out what kind of headaches they are (ice-pick, cluster, migraine, tension, etc) and how to manage or eradicate them.
May even be a dental problem. Get professional help.

I've been getting headaches on and off for the past year - turns out that I needed glasses. Well, I need them mostly for using the computer, but my left eye in particular was under pressure because my right eye has worse vision. I wear glasses whenever I'm on the computer or using my phone to browse the internet/text, and the headache situation has disappeared.

I just pop some sinus headache pills, grab an ice pack, turn the lights down low, and sleep. Rest is good for headaches.

I say you better visit a doctor. It might be stress related (I had them when my dad passed away) or can be migrane of some kind.

Don't depend too much on pills as they can loose their effectiveness in time. Also it cause other kind of side effects.

    Better be safe than sorry.

    Make sure you avoid caffeine.
Talk to your doctor about adding vitamin D and zinc to your supplements as well as b12. I have upped my intake on all 3 after my neurologist's urging.
Are you getting enough sleep? I find with poor sleep, I have them more often.
Have you had any nasal or allergic symptoms to anything? Drainage due to allergies can not only cause you to break out but have inner ear pain which can spring a headache.
Have a doctor check your thyroid levels as well as all of your other vitals such as blood pressure.

well extremely painful headaches are a better sign then a painless one. but generally a headache is a sign that their is something wrong in your body. I would make sure to drink alot of water and pay careful attention to your body and schedule a physical. keep track of how often u get them and avoid and colognes, paint etc

Sorry I'm going to have to butt in here with this...DO NOT take medical advice over the Internet, regardless the good intentions. You need to talk to an MD in real life. Make an appointment, write down everything you can remember about when and where you got the headaches, what you were doing, how they feel (stabbing, throbbing, dull ache, behind your eye, whatever), journal the details up until your appointment and be prepared to ask for a second opinion and/or to see a specialist.
