    This is a concerning development, a 10% rise in this disease among gay and bisexual men suggests that a very strong message is not getting across to those who need to hear it.

    As stated in this article, syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes, chlamydia and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) also significantly increase the likelihood of both transmitting and contracting HIV:

    Safer sex with fewer and more carefully chosen partners, using condoms always and getting tested, both regularly or when STI symptoms appear, is the only way of getting rid of this scourge...

    I wonder what's causing the trend...

    Just speculation, but perhaps condom usage is down due to increased numbers of people fearing HIV less due to PreP and better treatment for those that are HIV+. But it's also opening up people to other STIs and PreP doesn't guard against those.
