Greetings, Results published from a British study called PROUD offer further and very convincing evidence that Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP works. Given that the rate of new HIV cases is still high among gay men (despite an overall decline in new cases), this is worthy of serious consideration. Payers (such as the NHS in the UK) and insurance companies will no doubt recognize the cost-effectiveness of making this available to as many people as possible. Compared to the cost of treating HIV over an individual's lifetime, this is a no-brainer (see the part I bolded in the quote below). It will nevertheless be important to have data on long-term side effects, but given the alternative, the risk-benefit calculations are becoming more compelling for the use of PrEP.
