As to the question on the thread...

Depends on what I feel like doing and how much time and/or privacy I have for the act itself and (in some cases) clean up afterward.

If I'm just wanting to get off and get on with my day (or go to sleep): Dry (no lube), either standing over the bathroom sink or laying on my back on my bed. Right handed. Just stroking.

If I've got a bit more time and am home alone, I'll add lube to the mix, generally something called Wet, and may sit back on my weight bench, which can be configured as an incline bench. May add in a full length mirror.

If I've got lots of time alone, I'll switch to edging, change lubes to something called albolene, switch to my left hand (the right hand gets used for porn), be on either the bed or the couch with a towel laid down.
