Is it necessary for lesbians to use any kind of contraception during sex? I know that if you're dating a girl who has a penis, you should use a condom or something. But in terms of two girls with vaginas, what exactly is needed for safe sex? I feel so stupid for asking this, but I didn't want to just google it because I didn't want porn to show up. Sorry for the awkwardness. :icon_redf
I'm not very informed on this issue in terms of personal experience, but there are female condoms in which you can protect yourself from STIs from your partner in a lesbian relationship. There is a great video by Lacy Green on this on YouTube. I hope that helped even a little bit. (and btw. I thought it was necessary for me to reply to this because your name is Alex Frking Vause)
Hello Alex -- nice username. Oo Safe sex isn't that common between women (I'd even go as far as to say lesbians are probably among the worst offenders for not using safer sex methods) because the risks of transmission of something like HIV are very low from one woman to another. However, lesbians can still get STIs (chlamydia, genital herpes...). Risk is increased when you have sex on your period or share sex toys without washing them or changing condoms. You can use dental dams (like a square piece of latex -- you can also just cut up a regular condom) for oral sex, gloves for fingering someone (for example if you have cuts on your hands). Many girls don't like it because they don't feel it's necessary, and they don't like going down on a piece of plastic.
