I have so many questions about anal rimming. I've been kinda curious about it so I thought i'd ask anyone who knows a thing or two about it.

So first off, Do you use a dental dam or plastic wrap? And for people who don't use plastic wrap or a dental dam, do you ever taste anything when you rim?

Do you ever get scared of an accident? or better yet has an accident ever happened before while you were rimming? How did you get over it if so?

Also I was wondering, can you get sick from anal rimming, even if the bottom cleans well? I mean because that would mean that porn stars get sick all the time then since they rim anally a lot lol.

Ok, guess I'll take a shot at this - NOTE: I can't say I have lots of experience with rimming and the last time I did it was a lonnng time ago, but for about a year or so I was in a relationship with a guy who was very much into it, both giving and receiving. So, on the theory that it's like riding a bicycle...

We never used anything except mouths and tongues. I don't recall there being any particular taste (any more than any other section of human skin anyway). There was a somewhat musky smell, part sweat, put just man funk, but it wasn't all that strong and since we were turned on at the time neither of us minded. Showers before having sex and just making a point of keeping clean probably helped. He was naturally pretty smooth and shaved his body hair while I'm not all that hairy and was less so back in my 20s. Also probably helped.

We didn't go out of our way to attempt any kind of deep penetration with tongues or the like. That may be something others do or just an artifact of porn (more on that below).

Never was scared and no accidents ever occurred. If sex was in the cards neither of us were going to be eating a whole lot for some hours before anyway (it makes me sleepy and less flexible) and so there was nothing like any feeling of 'need to go' or even 'will need to go eventually' kind of thing.

I would suspect that you are more likely to get sick from kissing a guy who was riding a crowded bus with a sick kid or two on it on his way home from a job where a lot of his co-workers are parents. You do have an immune system after all and it is constantly working to keep you healthy as you move through the unending sea of bacteria and viruses that fill the air and coat every surface in our world.

As far as porn stars are concerned, realize that much of what you see in porn has only a passing relationship to what the actors actually do during filming. My husband does occasional work in TV and film (not porn), and from him I've learned just how much of any film is handled by creative editing of the scene. By shooting from multiple angles, repeating some scenes, using the right soundtrack, etc. the people making the film can create a lot of expectations and imagination in the audience, saving them from having to show it explicitly. A lot of porn doesn't even do that good of an editing job and it's often easy to see where they've repeated or spliced or shot the same scene from 4 different angles and then chained them together to make it seem longer than it is.

    Hope this helps,

    Todd

From a health perspective, the "right" answer is to always use protection (such as the barrier method you mention). In reality, I personally have never actually heard of anyone using barrier methods for most oral activity (blowjobs/rimming). The reality however is that you can get STIs from oral, but HIV is usually not transmitted via oral and you most likely would never get it from rimming. Ultimately, it is an activity that you must weigh the two sides of: using protection vs. not. Steps such as being in a mutually monogamous situation increases the chances of not getting an STI. Also, if sexually active, you should be getting routine tests anyway.

As for the other aspects, just make sure you're showered and feel "confident" enough to engage in the activity. I personally think it is one of those things to "plan" on doing. You have to decide what is acceptable in terms of duration of time between shower and the actual act of rimming...I've heard of some people who will only do it immediately after a shower and some will be ok with it as long a shower has taken place that day.
