    So, is it insomnia?
I often wake up somewhere from 8-10. Not unusual. The insomnia part is where I can stay awake till 4 a.m. before I begin to get tired. It's really hard to fall asleep and I've had to rely on singing to get sleepy. Is it possibly insomnia?

You might be simply nocturnal, you can take a medication called melatonin to regulate your sleep cycle. You need to go to a family doctor or neuroligist amd talk to them about it. As it might be something more serious, you should, no matter, what see a doctor about it. Sleep is extremely important and most adults need 7 hours of sleep at night. Are you tired during the day and do you sleep for a few hours later on in the day? How many drinks with caffeine do you dtink daily, cutting out on such drinks might be helpful as well as not eating a few hours before you go to sleep if you do.

I hope you manage to sort it out, in general, as far as I know it's highly unlikely that it is something serious but it is better to be safe and get yourself checked out by a doctor.

    Hugs,

    ^agreed, do this

    Just some extra info:
    Essays - Gwern.net

In the "Qs" section, there's a bunch of posts on sleep as well. (I don't recommend following through on some, e.g. modafinil, but most of them could help your situation). There's one on melatonin, which is what reminded me.

edit: right, be prepared for some decent reading if you use that site-- I personally don't mind, but I know that it can be a bit tiring for some
edit2: but definitely take the doctor advice first if you can

I'm 13 so I'm actually supposed to be getting 10 hours of sleep. I just don't get tired easily. I'll check out the website, I don't mind reading.

I read through it again a bit more, and it looks like they're not all as helpful as I remember them to be. :/

Melatonin one does provide extra info, though.

    I'm sorry, I didn't notice your age.

When I was a child/teenager it also took me a few hours to fall asleep every night. It was mostly because I couldn't calm my thoughts and regulate my attention, later on in life I learned how to control the wandering thoughts which has allowed me to fall asleep much more easily. As I said, being Nocturnal can heavily influence how hard it is to fall asleep if you go to bed too early, however, if you just can't control your thoughts and it feels as if your mind is going everywhere at once, it might actually be connected to an attention disorder or ADHD.

Arghh, this is so confusing >_<
The next time I visit my doctor, I'll ask about insomnia.

Sleep? What's that? But seriously though, it sounds like insomnia.

Insomnia. Lovely. On the bright side, I came out over e-mail today and it went great and I'm really happy
