I went to a new doctor yesterday about my headaches. She was great! Not like my old doctor at all. She really tried to get to the root of my problem without just sending me to a neurologist. She took about 12 tubes of blood checking everything from my thyroid to everything associated with my hormones. She checked the test my other doctor did and he only ran one thing on my hormones told me I was fine and that was it. I was very happy with her! We agreed that I was having rebound headaches after taking Imitrex for so long and so frequently. So as of today, I'm off Imitrex and all other over the counter medications for pain. She gave me several things to get through the withdrawal. Pain medication, anxiety medication, and stomach medication to take if I get bad. She started me on Nortriptyline (a very small dosage that I will increase gradually) that is a preventative type medication that helps with seratonin levels. She also sent me to a compound pharmacist for a personally mixed progesterone cream. I haven't got that yet. Wish me luck! I'm nervous about all this but excited at the same time. I am soooo ready to be over these stupid headaches!
Amazing what a change in doctors can find, eh? It sounds like the new doctor is more thorough and more interested in finding a solution to your symptoms.
I'm happy you have a new Dr.,who's trying to really help you. Some Drs are great and others.....well,you know. I hope your new regime helps you.Migraines are awful,as you well know. Good luck,Becky.
The headache came about noon today. The pain pills numb it enough to get through, thank goodness. Thanks for the well wishes!
Good to hear Becky. Not all doctors are created equal. Sounds like you've found a good one, which is awesome! I'll keep my fingers crossed here!
I got all my lab results back today and all were fine except that I showed past evidence of having mono. I wonder if I had it back when I was feeling so horrible that I cried to my chiropractor. That was kind of strange. I also have allergies to grass. No surprise there. I sit on a fresh mowed lawn and I have all kinds of problems. The really good news is that its been a week since I've seen my new doctor and I've only had two really bad headaches. That is good because I have been getting them everyday. I believe I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel! (!)
Oh Lex... :eusa_doh: I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. 'Only' 2 debilitating headaches in the same week sounds horrible to me, but I'm sure it really is better than having them constantly. So that is VERY encouraging. I hope it continues!
Hi Becky, I'm so glad that your new doctor is doing more to help you, it sounds like she is doing a great job. I really happy that you have only had two headaches since seeing her.
I can relate completly Becky, I have awfully painful headhaches too. I wish your new doctor will find something to help you with this. Take care, Eleanor
Good luck with the new doctor Becky! (*hug*) ...but in all honestly i came to this thread thinking it was about the new doctor in doctor who xD
Believe me, it feels so much better waking up in the morning when I haven't had to get up and take pain medication in the middle of the night. I feel like dancing! (!)
