I wasn't really sure where to put this,so I put it here.
As some of you know,I quit smoking on April 1st. I had been coughing,a lot, and figured it was my lungs, kicking all the crap out of them.By Friday, the 3rd.,I was really sick. I went to the hospital and got admitted for pneumonia.(just got home today).
One Dr. said it was probably a coincidence that I quit & got sick. The respiratory guy,who I know well, said he gets those complaints,a lot. He totally thinks they're linked,as do I.
At any rate,I am home, still not smoking and recovering slowly. Even though I ended up in the hospital,I'm still glad I quit. :eusa_danc

Hope you feel better soon!! I have heard of so many people getting pneumonia this year. Get plenty of rest. Have some chicken soup.

Oh Mickey! I'm glad you are okay. How many days were you in the hospital? I'm glad you didn't give up on the non-smoking. You WILL feel better soon!

    Thanks! I was in for 5 days.I still feel yucky,but I know I'll be okay,in a few more days.
I actually had soup, 3 days in a row.....
I am resting.( my mom's like a drill sargent ! Gotta love those moms!)
I think I'm over the worst with the nicotine withdrawal. The LAST thing I'd do now is to light up. I'm done!

My friend's dad quit smoking because he got pneumonia. Go figure :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Still, he also started making her sleep in the old lodger's shed when she had a cold so she wouldn't infect him...

    Well get well soon

    Good for you for quitting.

Pneumonia usually takes several days to develop, so chances are that you were coming down with it when you decided to quit.

Don't restart smoking- you don't want to ever go through this again.

I didn't get sick when I quit smoking many moons ago, I just got cranky

take good care of yourself, and remember that smoking makes any respiratory problems worse!

Sorry you aren't feeling well - but congrats on the smoking!

Funny story I'll never forget... Some rather 'backwards' neighbours up at our cottage were telling us about a friend of theirs who had quit smoking, but soon became very ill and died. Their diagnosis? "He didn't start back smoking quickly enough."

    :eusa_doh:

Study after study confirms that you immediately benefit when you stop smoking. And the long term benefits are even better. So stick with it! You're worth it. (*hug*)

    Hey there!

My dad went through exactly the same thing when he quit smoking, and it was consistent for almost 18 months!

It was a hard 18 months, and not just for him!

But once he/we were through it, his lungs were better then they had been in 35 years and everyone was happier!

    Good luck!

Well - the way you felt when you were suffering the full effects of pneumonia would probably be enough to put anyone off smoking for good!

Well done Mickey - stick with it and keep telling everyone "I'm a non smoker".
