Ok, so a few years ago, we went swimming, and about 30 minutes after swimming, my sister had to get out, where she noticed red blotches all over, and about 5 minutes later, she passed out. My mom rushed her to the hospital, where the doctor told her hypotension had set in, from a severe reaction of an allergy to the cold water my sister had, and she was back in the house in a few hours. My mom told us our dad had the same issue, which is why he rarely went swimming with us. Cut to yesterday. We went swimming, and when we got there, the weather channel had lied, and it was a little warm, with a very cold breeze. The water was cold, but not like freezing cold, so we still went in. 1.5 hours later, we got out and started walking up to change. After changing, my sister looked at my legs, and I had small red blotches all over my legs, on my arms, and some on my neck. At first we thought poison oak, then we remembered the only poison oak would've reached my ankles, and it'd be itching like crazy. After warming up, the blotches disappeared, which prompted my mom to tell me she thinks I may have inherited my dad's allergy to cold like my sister did. (One of the few allergies, to my knowledge, that can be passed down to children) However, all of the sites I can find say that people with an allergy to cold tend to have severe reactions, but mine were small blotches, and they disappeared very fast after warming up, whereas it states they tends to last weeks, which has led me to wonder if I have it, or if something else caused it... I was wondering if anyone here had the allergy, and if they have severe reactions, or small ones?
Well, if you inherited it from just your dad, it could be a more gentler (for want of a better word) version. Excuse my uneducational vocabulary, I can't think of the proper terminology at the moment, but as with all genetics, there'll be varying strains of the same characteristics within families because of the unique mix of DNA each child is made off when they were conceived.
