Default What are Pros/Cons For Working In Porn?

Working for porn has crossed my mind (maybe in a few years to pay 4 college), and i was just wondering what are the pros/cons in this career.

Healthwise, is it more risky to cath an std or aids?

Moneywise how much do pornstars get paid?

What are the pros/cons for working in porn?

is it true they make you take viagra and other drugs?

thanx
psychologically, i have nothing to worry about as i don't believe in morals/dignity and yata yata ya!

PS: it's just a thought
and i think i miscategorized this topic? :S

Healthwise, is it more risky to cath an std or aids? Well since you'll be having sex with more people i'd say yes.

Moneywise how much do pornstars get paid?
*Shrug*

What are the pros/cons for working in porn? Con: never can be undone. You could go for a job interview and they may have watched a porno you were in. Also if it gets out that you were in a porno at your work it could get you in trouble or fired.

is it true they make you take viagra and other drugs? Nobody makes you do anything. They might suggest it and you may chose to listen.

Health: I heard that porn stars get checked for STIs before every shoot. Plus, quality companies would let you choose what you do and don't want to do on shoots. This could vary from different companies, but it'd probably be the shady or low-end companies that you might have to watch out for dirty models or forceful staff. It's safer than prostitution.

Money: You get paid more for doing gay porn and it's a lot of money. I once watched a video where the cameraman gave a guy $1,000 for one bj.

Pros: Lots of money, your job is having sex with (usually) beautiful people, safe sex, get to meet wonderful people, may get to travel if company is very successful, may learn a thing or two about film production and operating a camera

Cons: May come back to haunt you if job you're applying for do an online background check, tiring, must eat right and exercise.

I say go for it if you have no qualms over morals and sexuality. Just research companies before diving in, always use a condom, and don't let anyone force you into doing anything you're uncomfortable with.

if you use a different name you wouldn't have to worry about people finding out as bad but like others said that is still a risk. And prob the only one that could really hurt you as you say you may do it to pay for college which i assume means you will be going for a job afterwards

Even if he uses a different name, if someone stumbles across a picture or video of his, it could be the end of that job.

My advice: Don't ever go into education, politics, business, or mainstream entertainment if you do go into porn. It could ruin your career for good.

Viagra is big in the porn biz. It allows for longer preformance and more takes. But Viagra should not be used at the ages of 20-30 because it is ment mostly for people who have erectile dysfunction. Since viagra has been out for such a short period of time we still dont know the full effect on using this pill at such a young age other than heart problems.

I wont say that STD/AIDS/HIV is a problem in the porn biz but it is a risk factor. A lot of the "professional" buisnesses do monitor these things but the a lot cheap buisnesses dont and considering you have to work your way up to the big dollars, once you start you are at a huge risk of infection.

A lot of gay porn stars are straight and end up being one hit wonders. It takes...talent...to stay in it for a long period of time not to mention that there has to be a demand to keep bringing you back on set.

I believe pornstars work under contracts as well so once they are demanded by their audience they get shipped around to porn/sex toy conventions around their country.

Being in the porn buisness is a lot like modling. It looks easy but there is actually skill involved and work to be done. In my opinion dont do it. There are places out there that would gladly hire and pay you well based on your talent and personality, not your dick. GL though.

Thanks.

Politics would be THE worst career to go into after going into porn, especially if you want to become the highest-ranking member of government. The media and opponents are always trying to find whatever dirt they can on politicians and this would be like discovering an underground civilization to them. You would be shamed and talked about for all the wrong reasons for years to come.

Psychology I'm not sure. I don't think medical employers would be too happy to have an employee with a raunchy résumé but they could look past that. In fact, any high-powered job where the stakes are high and the competitors are many or one dealing with children can be jeopardized by being an ex-porn star.

Default Re: What are Pros/Cons For Working In Porn?

I know a bit about the industry and will share what I know.

First, porn producers are all over the map. Some are gigantic companies (these, however, generally only produce straight content). Some are one-man shows. Some are 100% professional, some will expect the porn model to have sex with the (usually not attractive) producer.

Second, as far as STIs, the gay side of the industry has historically not been very diligent about testing, however this is slowly changing. There is an industry agency that acts as a clearinghouse for all tests and generally does a good job. On the whole STI risks are probably safer, if it's a condom shoot, than in ordinary circumstances because most of the models are now tested.

Third, while a handful of models are under salaried contract to do a set number of activities (scenes, appearances at clubs, etc), this is very much the exception. Most models are hired to do a specific number of scenes and are paid a flat rate for their work, with no expectations or strings other than that.

Fourth, while nearly all models have a stage name, it's pretty meaningless. People will recognize you with or without the stage name. Of course, you can always deny or claim it's your twin brother...

Pay is... all over the map. Small studios can pay as little as $100 for a scene, while the largest can pay $3000 for a top performer.

Very, very few performers in gay porn are straight. Many claim to be, but are basically closeted.

A few studios use ED drugs. A small handful of shady studios insist that models take viagra or drink or something before a shoot but with most it is voluntary.

I do think that porn has a lot less stigma than it did even 5 years ago, but it is a pretty permanent decision that I think you should carefully consider. I'm not even sure it will be a big deal in politics in 10 years but... I wouldn't want to chance it if I were thinking of politics or some sort of public office or high visibility career.

And... yes, a lot of the models I've met who have done porn are people with psychological concerns, and there are a lot of drug issues and sex addictions and other things... but I think that's more a function of the people that typically do porn rather than porn causing the problem. However, if you choose to do it, you do want to be really, really cautious because you may find that, in hanging out with that crowd, you will be more likely to make bad choices (for example, drug use) than if you are otherwise hanging out with a crowd that isn't into that sort of stuff.

The two biggest concerns for me is getting infected or porn catching up with my future job. 1000 bux is alot for just a scene... man..

What are ED drugs?

As for the druggies, it's no biggie i grew up with druggie mates throughout all of middle school and high school and i'm proud i never used anything.

So is there an alternative where i can make more money rather than porn?

I was thinking of being a cop or security or something along those lines in a couple of years but i dunno too little pay for such a risk.

Default Re: What are Pros/Cons For Working In Porn?

When I was severely depress (back in Feb-May 09) porn was the industry I was heading to it after high school because I wanted to become the biggest porn star the world has seen. Then I would save all the money and open at a strip club at 45-50 when I am too old for porn and want to get a decent job.

I was depress. I can't even believe I was thinking that.

----this is what I learn if you're interested-----

Move to L.A., and preferably San Fernando Valley. Then look for a major porn place (major; like Falcon) work only for the best. Then rise to the top in your specialty. Gay porn pays the best, but if you're bi you can do straight porn; Cody Cumming did it.

Straight porn needs you to be perfection and perform really well (more on performance than looks though). While gay porn is hiring any cute guy, and its easier to enter (if your hot you could probably rise quickly since a lot of them are ugly).

Do not get into the drug scene, since you will be a mess, you want to get the money and get the publicity.

The money is great, but it gets better if you can do it with other races, weird crap, and all that. You can easily make about $40 k or much more. You will travel the world, and if you make it to the top you will be like a gay celebrity or something.

Become a stripper as another way to get money, since you will earn a lot more once they know you're a porn star. And many strippers get into porn to increase their money. There's the AVN awards as well, but make it to the top before that can happen.

Health wise: Get the best body you can get, but if you're a twink do not get too muscled. Just get tone, and whatever specialty look the part. Also STDS are only common if you deal with cheap places, and MAKE sure that the people you're having sex with have their papers (monthly) checks on themselves. STDs are harder these days, but its porn, and its possible, but its really easily to prevent them.

Open your own website, and then bring in people to buy your porn online.

Also when you do VIAGRA, (if you're a top) then you will have to find other drugs that will make you hard. Since viagra will weaken with time, and I am not sure, but I saw a youtube video on this. I'll look it up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrnmO2S_ov0

Also read the "How to make love like a porn star!"

Also change your hair color, and wear some eye contacts to hide your identity while your in your porn star days.

But really this isn't a good profession.... it's almost like a prostitute. Its a degradation of person.

But you're an adult, so you can decide what you want to do.

Then you shouldn't do it.

Many of the producers working in the industry are not particularly ethical. They do not test their models or if they do "test", they accept the test results that the model brings. The only sure method is when the testing is done by the studio or through one of the industry foundations that does HIV testing.

Many of the models in the industry work as escorts or have substance abuse issues that put them in a higher risk category.

A porn past will catch up with you. The internet ensures that just about everyone who works for one of the well-known studios will have their pictures on the internet... as a number of college athletes and actors have recently discovered.

$1,000 is not a lot of money when you compare it to a real job. And with the current economy, the pay will only decrease.

Yes, there is an alternative. Go to school. Get a degree. Get a job. Start your own business. Save your money.

The thing with "easy money" is that it is temporary. So, things like selling drugs, working in the adult industry or other jobs that promise big payouts aren't the kind of thing you make a lifetime career out of... and it comes with a lot of shady people.

Well there are some porn that the performers do bareback. Anyway its not unusual to hear cases of people getting aids due to their work in porn. Infact I believe many gay porn stars have caught aids, this was especially true during the really big aids scare of the 1980s, and sadly many gay porn stars died as a result of it.

But those that choose to go into porn people will find out, even if family wont find out first hand they can find out via other means such as from friends of theirs. Anyway there are cases where people have wanted to remain annonomus in porn and did not want their partners to know, but have found out and as a result it ended that relationship.

Just some random thoughts.

* Don't assume that nobody will see it. A lot more people watch porn than will admit to it.
* You should be at least somewhat of an exhibitionist. After all, even if you're doing a "solo shot", you'll be surrounded by cameramen, lighting and sound techs, the director, etc.
* With the advent of amateur and/or homemade porn, you'd best have something to offer. Porn companies don't need a decent looking guy with a decent package who can perform OK on camera - there's a million of those. You'd best be quite attractive, quite hung, or quite able to perform brilliantly on cue.
* I honestly don't think it should be thought of as a "career". I say this not to demean those who work in the industry, but because the chances of "making it" - or even having a huge payday - are pretty minimal.

That doesn't mean I don't think anybody should do porn. If you're objectively attractive, if you're somewhat an exhibitionist, if you don't mind having you performing sex acts available for anybody to see, and if you just think it'd be a good way to get a few extra bucks on the side, then yeah - go for it. But take care of yourself.

Since 2000, there are about 12 cases known worldwide of gay performers getting HIV as a result of being involved in shooting porn. Yes, there was a gigantic problem back in the 1980s, but that was a problem affecting *all* gay people, not just those who do porn.

I would NEVER, EVER recommend someone going into porn and expecting that their family/friends will not find out. It doesn't always happen, and there are people that have been in the industry for 10+ years without family finding out, but with the increasing availability of porn and people's increasing openness in talking about it, the likelihood of keeping it under wraps is near zero.

Also... never expect to go into porn as a career. Very, very few people are able to make enough money from porn to sustain them. The people who seem to be happiest are the ones who do it here and there for extra money, and are comfortable about their body (or willing to become so), and like the idea of people watching them. Whomever said the average male porn model can make 40K a year is not being accurate; there are a handful of performers who make that much, but very, very few.

As Kara said, on the whole, the industry is very shady and there are a lot of bad apples.

Drug addiction and alcoholism is rampant, and a LOT of models get chewed up and spit out. If you want to do it for fun a couple times that's one thing, but doing so does mean that your naked pics are pretty much out there forever. As long as you're OK with that, and you're doing it for the fun and not so much for the money, then maybe it is a good decision for you.

And... as several have said, there are many ways to make more money, have a career, and be happy than trying to work full time in porn.

I agree but I will add two footnotes:
-.. that we know about
-.. before the latest trend toward barebacking in films

One other thing I haven't seen pointed out yet as a con is that... porn is not a stable industry. There's a reason that most porn stars moonlight as escorts, dancers, etc. It's because you shoot your scene, go home, and hope for another call before the bills are due again. If you're making $1000 a scene, don't expect to shoot a scene a day! Otherwise the porn stores would be flying through new videos every week. You're lucky to see one or two new titles each month from most of the big studios like Falcon and Jocks. So... yeah, just wanted to make sure that you realize that although a grand for a scene is a nice windfall for one day's work, it's not a regular thing, even with a contract.
