Re: Click Here! For first time, AIDS virus vaccine effective in trial

I can get rid of the click here, if needs be.

Anywho, anything that might even be leaning towards a cure is excellent. It's an awful disease, so this is good news.

Thanks for fixing the title, and yep, its good news, even if its not quite a cure.

What I want to know is who decided it would be a good idea to try and get HIV just for a study. Granted, they may not have been trying but the fact that they did suggests some risky behavior took place.

I worry that if an HIV vaccine is developed (not that that wouldn't be a good thing...it would be very good) people will think less of taking risky behavior and not keep in mind that there are other STDs/STIs apart from HIV.

from what they say im not sure where the proof pf success is just because a few less on teh drug got hiv than teh ones not dont mean much... lots of reasons someone may not catch it.

im unconvinced...... i erally want it to be true :frowning2:

I've merged the threads (so to anyone who's not seen this thread until now, that's why there's a bit of repetition )

So...what, they gave these people the vaccines and such...and then told them "go out and sleep with HIV people" ? I don't get this study at all.

what i dont get, is where the great victory or progress is... sid they get one person loaded with lots of hiv and make everyone sleep with him and a few didnt get hiv....?

as the biggest fact to me is those given teh vaccine also eventually got hiv so theyve not really gotten anything good yet theyre jsut making it sound like its a sort of repellent you can still get stung its just less odds.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like enough of a difference to prove anything. :frowning2:

i suppose we can take some reasurrance that people are actually bothering to try and find a preventative/cure though... so could allways be worse.

yeah, that's a small enough difference to be coincidence to be honest. Or there could be some other factor at work with a group that small.

Thought I would just add a comment from some poster on one of my favourite news aggregator sites. I agree, whilst the initial reports don't seem so encoraging, its a start. And hell, its better than the AMA suggesting that we all get circumsised to cut down the spread of aids!

I have no idea of the validity of this comment, but the guy is either a superb troll, or slightly knows his shit.

A step forward, but hardly a solution.

But at least they are making some progress, even if only a tiny bit. each new step brings new understanding, and new understanding opens up new ideas.
