I was just having a shower, got a nasty taste in my mouth, and spat at the drain.

There were visible traces of blood in my spit. I did it a few times and each time there were definately traces of blood - I could taste it too.

If it keeps up, or happens again, I will obviously go to the doctor.

What could it be though? I examined my mouth as best I could but there were no traces of blood around my teeth or gums.

I wouldn't be concerned unless it happens again. Sometimes in the shower you can dislodge a clot and start a bleed again- particularly things like nosebleeds.

Bleeding can be a symptom of other problems but it has to be a recurring pattern before it becomes something that we get concerned about.

do you have any cuts on your mouth or anything, feel around with your tounge and see. Where you brushing your teeth before hand? Sometime if you brush too hard you can make your gums bleed.

This happens to me too. I think it's caused by my smoking habit though. If you smoke, that might be the cause too?

You also could have possibly bit the inside of your mouth even in your sleep and that could possibly be a reason. I'm sure you're fine but if it happens again I'd maybe see a doctor.

Hasn't happened again so I'm assuming it was just a one off thing.

    Thanks for the replies.

You could just be brushing your gums too hard.

It didn't happen after brushing my teeth though.

I've a long history of nosebleeds so I think it is probably connected to that. It would seem to chime with what Kara Blut says too.
