For the last few months when I breath through my nose, it whistles. Today I noticed that that there is a black area on my septum on both sides. Im pretty sure theres a hole there too. I know that septum preforation is usually caused by snorting cocaine, but I haven't ever used it. What else can cause it and should I be worried? I smoke and Im worried it could be cancer. Any advice appreciated.
So I had a closer look and there is no black area, it the hole itself. Its about the size of the thickness of a match.
I would probably go to the doctor just so you can rule out cancer but it can also be caused by other stuff as well.
Septal perforations are usually caused by damage to the blood supply to the septal cartilage. There's several things that can cause this. You do need to see an ENT to have it evaluated. P.S. And you know what I'm going to say about the smoking.
