I've got really bad acne, really bad. It isn't all over my face, only in a couple of very concentrated areas. Mostly around my mouth and chin, where I shave, but it's also on my cheeks and forehead.
It's not just a problem of appearance, it hurts aswell.
Is there much I can do about it? I use all sorts of creams and gels and stuff, which helps a bit, but I can't seem to get rid of it, all this stuff just calms it down.
And is there much I can do to fix scarring? I think it's scars, a small cluster of tiny holes, almost like craters, about a quarter-half mm in diameter, and slightly discoloured. Are they scars? And if so, is there anything I can do to fix my skin?

Also, what about acne on my chest, back and shoulders? Is there anything I can do about that?

Washing the affected area/s vigorously always helps me. I think genetics plays a part in acne as well. I have noticed that stress causes me to get more than normal. Are you stressed out a lot? As for the scarring, I don't know if it will cause more acne or not, but Vitamin E oil can help significantly reduce the scarred tissue.

Uh the craters are mostly likely black heads. Get a facial with extraction to remove the dirt from under ur skin. I use cetaphil. I use four thing but not all together. First u need a face wash. I use cetaphil daily facewash twice a day. Morning and before I go to bed. The bed is essential. I also use a salicylic acid 2% wash every other day or so to mix it up. DO NOT GET ANYTHING EXFOLIATING or the stir proactive has. Dispute common belief it's bad for ur skin and will make if worse. This comes from my dermatologist. Now the important part this is a prescription med that I use twice a week maybe. Clindamycin phosphate. Get it from ur doctor. Just ask them to prescribe it for u. It's specifically for acne. Them if u have dry skin like me I use cetaphil moisturizing cream. Wong clog pores and a little goes a long way. It's a cheap solution maybe 100 bucks a year.

Keep your fingernails clipped regularly. Otherwise dirt collects under them and then onto your face whenever you touch it.

I had acne on my back, chest and face. Some friends recommended me some creams and gels. I tried some of them, but they didn't solve my problem, so I went to a dermatologist to ask for help. She gave me a prescription for some pills and I'm much better now. It's a treatment that takes some time, but at least it solved my problem and I have no scars.
I recommend that you go to a dermatologist too. Good luck!

What you're describing sounds like cystic acne. Most of advice we can give you is more geared toward ordinary acne. If you're seeing scars or cysts, you need to see a dermatologist. A dermatologist can prescribe stronger medications that will help resolve the problem.

I'm going to see my GP, in a while. He's away at the moment, so I'm going to see him when he gets back. I'll see if I can get a referral to a dermatologist, or if I even need to see a dermatologist.

I rememeber having a crush on this kid once, and he was all self aware of his craters, did I notice them, yes.
But, I also noticed his beautiful eyes and his sexy smile.

Now on a more medical side, I've heard proactive can really make a difference, but I don't know what it costs, and you're going to a dermatologist, so he'll know what to do.

I had tried several antibiotics and Retin A and some others over the years in high school/college, but it persisted. I tried Neutrogena, Cetaphil, and Purpose; I tried them all. Twice a day and a gentle moisturizer each time as well. It came and went, but the deep painful ones persisted so eventually (25 yo) I went for Accutane once I had insurance to pay for most of it. If you go for that, expect serious dry skin/lips so do it in spring or fall so the air isn't too dry and the sun isn't as intense, bc sun can be an issue too. Get the most gentle "buff puff" and use moisturizing soap to get rid of the dry, peeling skin on your face. There are risks of Accutane, but I only experienced the dry skin issues, but it broke the cycle of the deep, painful acne. I never got much of the scaring from all those years, but I was getting worried about that possibility so I decided to go for it, with the insurance help.

I hope this goes away for you soon and you find what works for you.

I got braces when I was thirteen and because of my severe nickel allergy and poor diet, I had very bad acne as well. It hurt when people patted me on the back, and I would wake up with blood on my shirt each morning.

I went on Accutane, which REALLY helped when I got my braces off and I stopped eating dairy products and bread. Or food high in sugar or oil. Of course I still break out on my face a little, but I wash twice a day, moisturize, and put ointment stuff on the spots themselves. I used "scar gel" on my face at night, and over time my skin has healed okay.

Now I just always avoid the food that made me break out. I do not eat dairy or food with yeast or wheat. People always say how sad that must be, but it's not as sad as having physically painful acne that made me feel unattractive. Plus unhealthy food is unhealthy, so whatever.

    This topic...:/

I had very bad acne all my life. My confidence hit rock bottom because of it. I would always walk around with my head down or avoid eye contact cause..ah, let me stop.

Basically, I literally tried everything, including the infamous ProActiv, some antibiotics. After about 4 years of trying, I kind of just gave up and accepted the fact that I'll suffer from acne forever.

I don't want this to be about me, so I'll cut the drama and go straight to the point: I took Accutane. Ask your doc about it.

Below are my before and after pics (I literally have never seen this "before" picture until now that I looked through old pics to find one...I look so nasty but I'm posting it for you.)

    Before (2 Years Ago):

After (Now) You can't really tell...but I kinda cleared up.

Sorry I don't really have any close up pics. I still feel awkward around the camera.

So yeah...I suggest asking your doctor about it.

I honestly wish you luck man

Here's a website that you can check out, maybe it will help.
    http://healing.about.com/cs/skincare/a/uc_acneguide.htm

Make sure you're drinking a ton of water and taking vitamins every day. Vitamins A/C/E and zinc are really good for your skin, and a lot of vitamin lines are making acai extract pills, which have a ton of anti-oxidants in them.

My skin started taking a nosedive a year and a half ago, and it started breaking out way more than it used to. I tried so many things that I ended up overtreating it, which made it worse. If there's a Target around you, there's an organic line of skin/haircare called Yes To (Tomatoes/Cucumbers/Carrots/Blueberries). I found it about a month ago, and I started using the Tomatoes stuff twice a day and it totally turned my skin around. It's a little more expensive, but the organic stuff sometimes works better than pumping your skin full of artificial chemicals.
Here's the website for that: http://www.yestocarrots.com/

I also use these Clean and Clear oil-absorbing sheets 'cause my skin gets super greasy really fast. The pack's got 50 of them and it's a little smaller than the size of a credit card, so I just carry them around in my pocket.

If you're having issues with scarring, there's this stuff called Bio-Oil that I use. You can use it on your face or your body. I put it on my knees where I have surgery scars. There's also this Neutrogena Fight-and-Fade toner that accelerates the cell reproduction turnover on your skin, and Clean and Clear also has an anti-mark treatment. If your breakouts are sore, Neutrogena also has a sore pimple gel, and you can also try ice. Maybe try a cleanser formula for sensitive skin. You have to be really gentle 'cause if you wash your face too much or too hard, you stimulate the wrong glands which makes breakouts worse.

    Good luck!

Once upon a time a very experienced doctor has given me a trick that worked miracles when my usual doctor and a dermatologist failed to drive away my acne with medicine.

Basically, this doctor explained that a most likely cause of acne is our body's response to overwhelming amounts of glucose. Typically, our body's metabolism is regulated. But over dosing amounts of glucose is difficult for our bodies to handle, in serious cases, you develop adult onset diabetes, but in less serious cases, acne.

He told me to stop eating any sugary stuff, pasta, potatoes, corn, starch, bread, and to stop drinking sugar based soda. In a matter of 2 weeks, I stopped having new acne develop, and after a while my face became smooth.

I've struggled with acne breakouts for literally decades (I'm 34 now), and tried everything under the sun. Last year I finally found a product that works, which was developed by the creator of the acne.org support forums: http://www.danielkern.com/

The downside is that it'll bleach most fabrics, so I had to get used to not having nice bedsheets anymore. Also it makes your skin red and peel-y for a couple of weeks before you get used to it. But it's worth it.

Well he didn't develop Benzoyl Peroxide :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: but his brand is good because it doesn't contain the other irritating additives that all the mainstream acne brands like Clearasil and Neutrogena always add.

I haven't had it bleach my pillows or bedsheets though once it had been absorbed. It did bleach a t-shirt I was wearing when I accidentally got fresh stuff on it however.

I use another Benzoyl Peroxide-only brand (the acne.org one would be too expensive to ship to NZ) that has also worked excellently for me. Much better than the commercialised brands that only made it worse.

I know he didn't develop BP, but I don't know of any other leave-on gel available in such large quantities with the same strength of BP. I just meant he developed this particular line of products.

I've recently discovered that it even bleaches my WHITE sheets... it turns them yellow! :/
