When in doubt, get it checked out. And with weird rashes like that... especially purple ones? Go get it checked out as soon as possible.

What about petechiae? It is caused by a minor hemorrhage (broken capillary blood vessels). I would get it checked out. It may be harmless, but it can also be an indicator of various infectious and non-infectious conditions.

Unless it's a healing bruise, purple isn't a normal color to turn... so unless KB comes in and has any suggestions, I reccomend seeing a doctor to get it looked at.

Put down the computer, and go to the doctor and/or if you can't get an appointment soon, just go to emergency.

KS is a serious issue to have, please have a professional check your situation out, your life is important and we'd like to have you around for awhile, I hope it's just a minor thing, but please read up on KS...What Is Kaposi sarcoma?

KS is all but unheard of except in old Jewish men and people with severely compromised immune systems (such as from HIV) AND extensive use of inhalants. So, while I'm no doctor, I can say with reasonable confidence that it isn't KS.

Now... folks... none of us, except KB, have any medical training, so please let's not conjecture about what this might be and scare MommaFrog half to death, OK?

MommaFrog, you should get this checked out. KB should be looking into this thread and posting, but I can almost guarantee he's going to suggest you see a doctor, and I think that's a wise idea.

Based upon the picture, it is what we would describe as "purpura" which is just a fancy word for bruising under the skin. The thing with purpura is that it has hundreds of possible causes.

What does concern me about the picture you posted is that it's not just one bruise- it's a collection of them. And you've mentioned that they are all over your body which makes it unlikely that it's from bumping the area.

In a case like this, it's better to make an appointment with your doctor and have some tests run.

Generally, this is one of those horses versus zebras situations- it's unlikely to be something exotic and there may be a very logical explanation for it. But based upon the picture, you do need to be seen by your doctor for tests as soon as possible.

I'm trying to get in the see my assigned Doctor. I say assigned because I am on Medicaid at the moment and they tell me what doctor to go see.

At the moment they have faded some, but now they are light brown, just a couple shades darker than my skin. But they have done that before then suddenly become purple again.

And no, I don't have a fish tank... XD

And you're not taking any drugs that interfere with clotting- like aspirin, Coumadin, Plavix, etc?

When you make the appointment, be sure to mention that you have some bruises on several areas on your body and you don't have a reason for them (like an accident or fall). Even if they can't get you in for an appointment immediately, they may want to send you for blood tests before the appointment.
