Rectal Pressure

    Hi EC.

Sometimes throughout the day I get rectal pressure, like the feeling you get before you have a bowel movement. Any thoughts on this?

    Side note: I'm a virgin.

this is a total guess: maybe your body feels excited in some way? like, does it happen more when you're talking to people or doing something very fun, or when you're feeling anxious/nervous? i think i know what feeling you're talking about, and if it's the same feeling then it's a common reaction our bodies have to things that are somehow exciting.

No that's the weird thing, like I might just get it when randomly sitting down, playing games, talking to people, eating... Anything. Actually lately it has been dying down but it is still a bit worrying, I'm pretty sure it's not cancer or anything because I've never bled out of my butt, however I would like to know what the possibilities might be because that of course is not normal.

Do you sit around a lot? It could just be some irritation in the blood vessels - like hemorrhoids, though only not so bad. Does the pressure hurt? Some fiber supplements, like Metamucil, might help keep things clean and regular and give whatever's going on a chance to heal or settle down. If your eating habits have been not so great, this is a possibility.

No bleeding does not mean no cancer, but I'd be shocked if you had cancer at 15 (unless you live in a particularly unsafe nuclear power plant).

Well I do sit around a lot but about 5 months ago I had been playing games for 2-3 years rarely leaving the house (bad depression) and never had such things then, so doubt that is it. The pressure doesn't hurt and I wouldn't say it's unconfortable either but it's very annoying to feel like I need to go when I actually don't. I have never eaten very well my entire life, I don't see why now out of all the times is when I would get it.

However since I started seeing my old friends recently I have been wearing pretty tight trousers with quite a tight belt to try and draw attention to myself, I don't suppose that a tight belt could cause something like this?

Would there be other signs if I had a tumor?

If I were to go to a doctor to get this checked out which I think I will, how would he go about checking? I know I am gay and all but I sort of have a phobia of anything going inside my butt, at least for the time being.

Colorectal cancer is very rare in people under 40, so I don't think having a colonoscopy is really necessary unless you have other, more serious symptoms. As Gravity said, unless you're living in a nuclear reactor (or your family has a strong history or colorectal cancer, it's incredibly unlikely that that's the case with you.

You're probably dealing with something closer to internal hemorrhoids, which doesn't necessarily require medical attention unless it's a particularly severe case. Avoiding junk food and eating more fiber should hopefully help with the feeling of bowel pressure you're experiencing.

It's unlikely to be cancer. Colorectal cancer is extremely rare in people under 30.

The primary thing that a physician will do is get a history and physical and ask if you've had changes in bowel habits lately. Usually rectal exams are done if the physician suspects a prostate issue.

More than likely, if there's something significant, you would be referred to a specialist in gastrointestinal disorders.

Would internal hemorrhoids cause this feeling? I thought usually there is bleeding involved in hemorrhoids?

Is it still worth getting checked out just in case? As a health expert do you know of any definite symptoms of this type of cancer? I don't think anyone in my family has had cancer, my mother had a tumor removed about a year ago however.

Even if the cancer is extremely rare, I would get it checked out if there's a chance I have it, but I'm not sure if there is so I would be greatful for a list of symptoms.

Ahh after reading up on internal hemorrhoids I see you may be correct, should I just increase fibre and water in-take and see if the problem resolves itself? How are internal hemorrhoids usually and effectively treated?

actually i think your tighter pants/belts may be a factor. when i wear anything that puts extra pressure on my belly button it makes my nether regions feel different. i'm not sure of the science involved, haha, but try wearing less tight things for a while to see if it stops completely.

Ok thanks I'll try that too.

Hmmm.. On a side note I think it's posssible it is internal hemorrhoids, as last night when I had a bowel movement the feeling of abdominal pressure was there and quite bad for about 3 hours which is the point I feel asleep, when I woke up it is not there, my abdominal area doesn't feel like it should do but at the same time there isn't any pressure there.

So what is an effective way at curing internal hemorrhoids? Would be good to try and at least have it checked off the list of what it could be should the treatment fail.

Not trying to sound like a detective here but I know that tight clothing can slow the digestion process and cause constipation, so I don't suppose the constipation has caused the internal hemorrhoids, if that is what I have?
