Hey Guys, The other day I was peeling and dicing up a big butternut squash, and I was rinsing off my hands often cause the flesh made my skin slimy and sticky. When I finished however, the skin on my left hand, 2/3 of it at least got all dried out, brown and was peeling. It wasn't itchy or sore, just uncomfortable. My right hand was fine and after picking and scrubbing it for about half an hour the skin thing was gone. I spoke to a friend and she said it could have been an allergic reaction to the flesh but I eat it all the time and I'm not allergic to it, and my right hand didn't react at all. What could it have been?
Several varieties of squash and pumpkin can be very irritating to the skin when raw. It's not unusual for people to have a reaction when peeling or scraping them. Usually moisturizer and a cortisone cream will clear it up.
