Okay this sounds really babyish and dumb, I know, but I was just watching this youtube video that is supposed to hypnotize you into being mute for one hour. I was shocked because it was starting to work and then this really sick, awful feeling crept over me and I felt like I was going to faint. It was just such a terrible feeling I couldn't shake for about 5 minutes once I got scared and stopped the video. I know it sounds weird but I just got so afraid, and I'm still recovering. Just needed to vent, I guess. Here's the video if you were curious about it: Hypnosis: Mute Your Voice (Request) - YouTube
Have you looked at his other ones? The sleep one actually worked for me. ._. ---------- Post added 30th Dec 2012 at 10:37 PM ---------- Well, their other ones. I forgot a girl comes in on a few. ._.
Hypnosis only works on the willing-- that's no joke. I've looked into that. This was happening because either you did want to be hypnotized, and that feeling was supposed to happen-- uncontrollable relaxation to the point of almost passing out. It's normal.
I had a hypnosis experience at my high school graduation party. The hypnotist said before anything else "If you try to resist, you win. No contest." It's not like mind-control; it only works if you, ironically, try fairly hard to follow it. That video worked reasonably well for me, actually. It didn't make me totally mute, but I do feel only like speaking in a very low voice, like it's almost gone. I think it would have worked better if I had a more comfortable chair, as I had to break the gradual relaxation in order to readjust myself. Either way, hypnosis is nothing to be afraid of. It's fascinating, definitely, but something that is mostly just used for good things. Now if only we could use on people who shouldn't be talking to begin with.
That's not completely true; Milton Erickson (the father of modern clinical hypnosis) was able to put people in trance against their will. But clinical hypnosis and the sort of stuff in Youtube videos are two different animals, and stuff like what's in the Youtube video is likely heavily affected by suggestion (i.e., you watch the video and think it will have that effect, so it does.)
I tried it, and... whoa... I couldn't move while he was talking, I can't talk now, and I don't feel depressed anymore Hypnosis only works on the willing, but it is kool
I don't think that was an intended result. Maybe you were cutting off your circulation somehow and were so relaxed and focused you didn't realize it/adjust it?
Pretty common byproduct of hypnotic trance, actually. Sometimes, as people get deep into trance, they feel themselves spinning, which is even weirder... I've felt both. Nothing to worry about
