    What exactly is haldol?

I freaked out a few times in the emergency room a few weeks ago as well as in the psych unit, they would come and give me a shot of haldol.

It gave a lot of relief, but I was told it's not something they typically give you on a regular basis.

What is it, and why can they only use it in "emergencies"?

I've heard that long term use can seriously hurt your liver.

Haldol (haloperidol) is a psychiatric medication that is used in several circumstances. It is one of the drugs used for acute psychosis, although not usually the first drug of choice.

With long term use, it has quite a few unfortunate side effects, some which may not be reversible.

Thanks. Right now I take clozaril for an antipsychotic. I don't know... I'm finally starting to get relief.
