When I was lying in bed this morning, I was randomly overcome by a sudden pain in my stomach which lasted a few seconds only and then went away. This happened several times. Now I feel fine except my stomach is a little tender, but no more sudden pains. I don't have any other symptoms. I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with menstruation because I'm not due for a couple of weeks and I've never had that kind of pain at menstruation anyway. What could this be??

    Thanks for reading.

Sometimes I get those. Maybe you just had to work particularly hard at digesting something???
If it happens again, I'd probably go and see a doctor if I were you. It might be nothing at all or it could be a stomach bug or appendicitis. Better safe then sorry and have it checked.

When you say "stomach"- where exactly is the pain.

Here is a picture showing the four quadrants- in which quadrant are you having pain and is it always in the same place and does it happen at the same time of the day?

It's probably nothing to worry about unless it comes back.

Most of the things that we worry about are on the edges of the quadrants where they are protected by the hip bone and ribs (e.g. kidneys, appendix, gall bladder, etc).

If it happens again in the same area, check with your doctor.

Something like this happened to me a few weeks ago. I thought the little alien guy from the movie "Alien" would pop out of my stomach and eat my face.

There's no other advice I can give you that hasn't already been given, except for maybe stay away from really spicy food for awhile.
