Overall question is: when does being sexually active become promiscuity becomes sexual addiction? It's a lot to chew on. I've read that the only two addictions which are really hard to define are eating and sexual addictions, because they are normal bodily functions ... and on the lowest level (more basic) of Maslow's hierarchy of needs? Discussing this would be interesting.
Well promiscuity is having (sexual) relationships with multiple people at the same time. But both monogamous and promiscuous people can be sex addicts. I'm not a psyhologist however so I don't know the exact qualifications of nymphomania.
True, monogamous people can be sex addicts through addiction to porn, excessive fantasizing, and possibly a level of sexual activity required of their significant other, all of which are distractions from a healthy level of functioning, whatever that is. However, I was posing the question from the level of casual sexual activity - presumably that of a single person. Sexual addiction has only been in the limelight for about 20 years and some guy named Carnes seems to one of the pioneering health professionals in this area. Whether he's on point or not is not for me to determine. I've only glanced at his books at the store.
