Hey guys... I'm new here... I mainly joined to ask advice about my sexual orientation... and also make new friends (i don't have a single "gay" friend)

    Well here goes...
I'm a "Pansexual" which means that I like guys and girls and also don't care what race they are... so long as I find them attractive. Now I have been calling myself a bisexual recently... but I'm so confused as to what I am.

I've have girlfriends before. And I've had boyfriends before. But I don't necessarily like one more than the other. So am I just a bisexual?

Is there even such a thing as pansexualism?

Please if anyone can shed some light to the problem I'm having leave a comment... Thanks all and hope to hear from u guys soon

    Hey,

So bisexuality means you are attracted to people of two different genders - usually but not exclusively men and women.

Pansexuality has a few slightly different definitions that I've seen, but the most commonly used is that you can be attracted to anybody regardless of their gender identity I.e. bigender, trigender, polygender, pangender, agender, androgyne, kathoey etc.

Just label yourself with whichever you feel comfortable with. Bisexuals can like both genders equally too, they can like people of any ethnicity (like gay or straight people can) or any religion and they can also like trans people or people who don't identify with genders because they still have a physical body of a man or a woman (usually). Don't get caught up with labels because they usually mean something different to everyone

Cool... I guess I'll just call myself a "Bisexual" for now

    Thanks guys...
Hope I find someone one day that doesn't care about these labels

I think people use the term pansexual because of the negativity surrounding bisexual....
Although to be clear it means you'd date ANY gender. Including transgender men and women and I believe one pansexual woman told me she would date a hermaphrodite.

As it's been already said yes, pansexual means you'd literally date anyone, regardless of the genre. "Pan" in Greek, if I'm not mistaken, actually stands for "all".

I mean, people are going to be butthurt, but I laugh about the shit I see on this site. It takes away from any credibility that bisexual people have to allow people to make categories within bisexuality. To me, a lot of it stems from people being afraid to be gay or bi, or they think they're special somehow. It's very pretentious. I won't even talk to a guy that's "pansexual" and rarely a bi guy because I don't want to compete with another sex. I know that they're able to be exclusive, but it doesn't mean that they won't be enticed by pornography featuring the other sex or looking at women in front of me.. I just think it's setting myself up for failure. I don't like the direction things are going in within gay lifestyles.. If we allow it to become messy, then why would anyone consider us credible people? At the end of the day, you're either Bi, Gay, Straight or Asexual in my book, with asexuality being the rarest of them all because it's natural to like one of the sexes or both.

Pan-sexual isn't a gender but mostly refers to having both female and male sex organs. It's possible to be born both female and male physically. It is not likely a person would have both organs as an adult. Doctors surgically arrange the person into a sex. A pan-sexual has had both sex organs or has both sex organs from birth. The Two-Spirited which is a Native American term is the place in ones soul that balances the gender schematics.

That's intersexed, not pansexual. Pansexual is an orientation just like bisexual which can be experienced by people of any sex and gender.

Also, two-spirited is a term that is very specific to the native American culture - in most parts of the world people are more likely to identify as bigender/neutrois/androgyne.

I'm curious, why would we become less credible? Christianity has hundreds of denominations, and it's still a major religion. People can like what they like, and if they feel a label doesn't fit them, who cares? Also the comment about bisexuals and pornography. 1. Not all bisexuals watch porn. 2. Do you watch gay porn? If so, are you attracted to both parties? I suspect the answer is "Sometimes, but not always". Remember that being bisexual doesn't equate to wanting threesomes. Like any relationship, what matters is finding a trustworthy partner, and opening yourself up to trust them in the first place. Every time you enter into a relationship, you run the risk of failure. Pansexuals ARE different from bisexuals. I personally would not be interested in dating a MtF (objectively, that could change, I suppose) not because I find their lifestyle less credible...it's just not my thing (like girls aren't yours). FtM is a bit more attractive to me, but I identify as bi because I primarily go for cis men and cis women. A pansexual focuses on the person inside the body. I actually find that to be really admirable.

That's total bullshit. The bit about you not dating bisexuals - that's your opinion so I won't contest it, although I suspect a lot of people on this site would find it very hurtful. But to claim that entire sets of orientations don't exist, seemingly for no other reason than because you say so? Do you have any justification for this, any scientific evidence, or is it just something you pulled out of your ass because you don't understand it? You know all those people who say that homosexuality is a choice, and that it doesn't really exist? Congratulations, you've officially turned into one of those people for the many, many sexual identities that you're now claiming to be false. And, despite acknowledging that it exists, you're also telling us that asexuality is unnatural. Are you sure a support forum is the most appropriate website for you to visit when you're so clearly unsupportive?

People can believe whatever the hell they want to believe.. Notice that I added that I didn't think bisexuals have an inability to be faithful people, I just said that it would be difficult for me personally to accept because I'd feel as if there was an aspect of who they were that I couldn't satisfy. And it's just idiotic and confrontational to assume that I thought all bisexuals watch porn.. Now, with that being said, find somewhere in there where I said my word was the end all.. And we can talk about a lot of things within being gay that makes people hypocritical, so don't try me on that.. I mean, at the end of the day, I'm not judgmental at all, I think there's someone for everyone. I know that I personally wouldn't want to complicate aspects of my life. I'm not saying that I won't date a bisexual guy, I'm just saying that it's less likely for me to get over that hurdle. I don't date people to change them, so I would rather just say that I'm not compatible with someone. Like I said, people are going to be butt hurt about it, but I don't care, that's no.1. No. 2, I feel like these other terms such as homo-romantic or hetero-mantic is a bit demeaning to the term of bisexuality. And I'm not basing this off of science, I'm basing it off of my experience talking to bisexual men who are damaged by the overall perception of bisexuality and often get frustrated trying to explain their attractions. The frustration isn't from me, I feel like it comes from the fact that there are people claiming that they're bisexual, when they're really promiscuous people. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I wouldn't like it if gay was a fad all of a sudden and the term was being stretched or used inappropriately. Comparing sexual orientation to a religion such as Christianity is a losing battle whether you like it or not, and none of us are more more accepted than Christianity. It's a moot point. And I give tons of advice here, so I don't think you're in the position to question my intent. I came here to answer the question. Is Pansexual the new Bisexual. My response to it was that I felt like it was silly.. that was my opinion, you're entitled to yours. I saw an article not that long ago about pedophiles wanting to claim the same rights we have as LGBT people under the SAME reasoning that we have the right to be who we want to be and we can't help it. When the truth is.. there's a lot of people who can help who they say they are. So it's a fine line that I think too many people are crossing by categorizing their affections for others. The OP came in here questioning his sexuality when.. there's really nothing to question. He likes both sexes. In my book, he's bisexual. Why does it have to be any more complicated than that? When you come out to someone and they're visibly confused by what you're saying, does it make you feel good or something? I just don't understand who or what made him feel like he had to be anymore than just that.

    You're missing the point.

What benefit do you gain by coming onto a support topic and denouncing the beliefs of quite a few other people? Saying people who identify as pansexual is less valid than bisexual is like saying people who identify as bisexual is less valid than gay/straight. The supposed promiscuity of bisexual people is also irrelevant to the identity naming surrounding bisexuality and pansexuality.

In terms of terminology, pansexuality is also not a subset of bisexuality. They're both subsets of polysexuality - the attraction to multiple sexes. One is not better than the other.

If you don't understand, that's fine. But that means you either stay here with the intent to understand or you leave the thread, because your dismissive attitude is not conducive to a supportive environment.

Personally I use Pansexual because I have dated Transgendered men and women. I am here to be honest with myself and others. I am also here to relate with others. When I come out it will be most likely Bisexual. Pansexual is too confusing and unnecessary when talking to most people. I can always expound on it if need be.

In short, bisexual is being attracted to either men or women.
Pansexual is being attracted to a person's heart, regardless of what's between their legs.

This is why I'm on the fence about pansexuals... not pansexuality. Saying you love a persons heart regardless of what's in their pants is one way of putting it, but the thing is, liking all the genders does't mean you like a person "regardless" of their genitals, that would make you panromantic and asexual. Everyone falls in love with hearts. Also, saying trans people are a separate gender implies you don't think they qualify as real men and women. The reason I'm on the fence about it is because unless you're intersex everyone has a male or female body, no one has an agender or bigender or genderqueer physical manifestation. My point being that a bisexual or monosexual person can be attracted to someone outside the gender binary because there are physically two sexes, apart from intersex.
Like, I totally understand that some people just identify with this label and that's okay, and I know that I'm always a person to judge things without understanding them. Like I was always iffy about polyamory until I felt like I needed to try it. My point isn't that pansexuality isn't a thing, more-so that some of the definitions can be belittling and marginalizing to other groups.
