There are several different opinions on what constitutes being gay. Should we try and distinguish between romantic and sexual orientation? If you find one gender exclusively sexually attractive but the other gender exclusively romantically attractive does that make you gay, straight? My question is: if we were to build a checklist to see if you were gay or not, what would that look like?
✓ Do you like dick? (I'm just kidding, don't jump me yet) (and sorry ladies) Personally, I'd think it will simplify things A LOT if we referred to homoromantic people as gay and biromantic people as bi and heteroromantic people as straight and so on. However, some people already identify as biromantic gay - it will look odd if they switched it "bi gay" or, if they're homoromantic, "gay gay".
Romantic Attraction: Would you date someone of the same gender? Have you ever felt in love with someone of the same gender? Would you like to be romantic with someone of the same gender? Sexual Attraction: Do you have sexual fantasies about someone of the same gender? Would you have sex with someone the same gender as you, given the opportunity? Have you ever been 'turned on' by someone of the same gender? Something like that maybe?
Are you attracted to men? Are you attracted to women? If the answer to both is yes you are not gay, if the answer to the first one is no and the second one yes you are not gay, if the answer to the first one is yes and the second one no you are gay. I think that is straightforward but maybe not too reliable.
Here's my serious checklist: Romantic orientation: Will you date someone of your own gender? Do you feel the desire to be in a romantic relationship with someone of the same gender? Can you see yourself living your life with a partner of your same gender? Sexual orientation: Will you have sex with someone of the same gender? Do you have the desire to be in a sexual relationship with someone of the same gender? Do you have sexual fantasies about people of the same gender? Basically what YuriCore said. However, I believe a lot of these points can be excluded. For example, an asexual person may have sex with someone of their gender, but they are still asexual because they don't experience sexual attraction. It really depends on the person. What about gay women? >:0
Haha! I'd say if there were no consequences to it, I would date both genders, romantic with both, living with opposite gender but possibly same, probably yes to sex with same not sure about opposite, I mostly fantasize about men when I do.
