Is 15 too old?

I've been reading all these posts about how your sexual orientation is fixed before age 5. So, why did it take me until I was 15 to realize I was a lesbian? Is that too old? If I was really gay, would I have known FOR SURE before I was 15? I always knew I was a little queer but, should I have KNOWN I was homosexual at a younger age?:help:

Some people know really early. Some people don't recognize their feelings and what they mean until in their 60s. We're brought up being told that what you do is like the opposite sex. You grow up, date, get married, have kids all with the opposite sex. It can be harder for some than others to see their own feelings through that level of expectation. It can also be difficult to acknowledge our feelings are divergent because of the stigma homosexuality can carry. And I would say 15 is even on the younger side for figuring this out.

Took me to age 25 to know

 

Didn't accept/acknowledge consciously what had been true for me in terms of sexuality until 24. Pretty sure in my own case I was "born this way" or whatever.

 

Didn't know till I was 27/28 so no isn't

 

I didn't know until age 14

 

Yep that's pretty slow. But not as slow as me. I only realized it at 45. Just a few months ago, in fact. Halfway to the grave and I only just realize it! How about that?

Ok I was kidding. About you being 'slow', I mean. Seriously now, you have nothing to worry about with this. In the middle of adolescence is a pretty typical time to get to know about one's sexual orientation, all is well. Don't stress; you are not lagging behind.

 

There's no such thing as 'too old' to realize your sexual orientation, everyone works it out at their own pace. I was around 15 when I realized (that I wasn't straight, anyway. I'm still not 100% what I am).

 

I agree with everyone else......some people know by the time they are 7, some still aren't sure in their 40s. Everyone is different, try not to worry about it

 

I find it silly when ppl say they knew they were gay at he age of 5..seriously?! That's impossible! At the age of 5 u don't even know what sexual or romantic or physical attraction is and I'm sure a 5 yr old or w.e is almost incapable of having or knowing sexual/physical attraction to another person.

It just doesn't make sense how at such a young age u could be 100% sure of something like that. But anyways IMO 15 isn't too old.

Yeah, I was probably 14 or 15ish when I figured it out :lol:

 

I think that when this is meant this way, it means that you can kinda subconsciously know who you're attracted to. Like, when having a crush on someone when you're 6 or 7 in school. In a way, that makes sense to where I can understand how some kids might "know", but wouldn't exactly know what that means.

 

Some people don't realize til later. If you're at all bi (like me) it can delay the age of figuring it out. Or even if you aren't, and were just not very self-aware as a kid/teen/young adult/old adult.

 

It took me until I was 20.

Fixed before five? No. It's just the way you are. But as for when you figured it out, well, you could be forgiven for assuming that all the people who told you or implied that you were straight were telling the truth. It can be hard making the mental adjustment to realise that the world isn't the way you thought.

i was about 20 when i became completely sure of who i was sexuality wise

 

I'm 15, and I don't think most of us really understood sexuality until puberty. And, for me, I was always way too interested in Pokemon to even know what gay was until some guys started calling Justin Bieber that in 6th grade.
