I don't want to come across as rude or mean or anything but my best friend said she is pansexual and although i know the definition I am not quite sure what is means. Can anyone explain it to me. Is being pan just loving people for who they are not for their gender roles? Is being bisexual loving people based on their gender roles? Sorry again if I come across rude it is not my intention. Thanks in advance, Aidan

That makes sense but what about the whole gender role thing?

Bi makes it out only with cis-people, pan makes it with anyone.

Nope. Bi people like trans people too. Even gay and straight people date non-cis people.

As a bisexual who could see herself dating a trans person, I disagree with this. Bisexuality is usually described as attraction to both men and women. However, even though some consider transgendered people to be a separate gender of than cis-gendered individuals, I disagree with this as a trans person is still either a man or a woman, it's just that their identity as one or the other happens to disagree with their biological sex. Pansexuality is typically described as being attracted to all or many genders, or having no preference for gender. This would include attraction to non-binary gendered individuals (such as genderfluid, bigender etc). This is not to say a bisexual person can't be attracted to a non-binary gendered person, but they don't consider themselves to be "gender blind" as many pansexuals do. This is also not to say pansexuals are attracted to everyone or that they're aren't attracted to people; they just have no preference based on gender. A good analogy I've heard might be that you could just as easily date a blonde person as you could a brunette. A person's hair color has no weight on whether you're attracted to them or not.

As far as I know bi means "being attracted to two genders", most commenly male and female but any combination of binary and non-binary genders is possible.

Pan means that you like all genders, binary or non-binary. You can feel attracted to basically anyone... male, female, trans, agender, genderfluid....

There's also polysexual, which means that you're attracted to mutiple genders but not to all genders.

This makes a lot of sense and completely answers my question. Thank you

I dig the emotional connection with someone, their sexuality is secondary.

That's me though, I'm not hung up on how people label or see me. Nor do I care what label people put on themselves.

Bisexual is being attracted to genders similar and genders different to oneself. To put it simply, bisexuality means being attracted to more than one gender. Pansexual, on the other hand, means being attracted to people of any/all genders or for some regardless of gender. A bisexual person may not be attracted to every gender, but some bisexuals are attracted to all genders just like pansexuals. In my view, pansexuality is a type of bisexuality, because it is attraction to more than one gender.
