Meeting and making friends with other LGBT online (not just for sex)

I am keen to meet other like minded LGBT people however given the fact that I am still figuring a lot of stuff out I don't feel confident doing this in person yet. It seems that the internet would be a good place to start however I have found that most of the websites and apps I have come across so far are very much geared towards quick hook ups for sex and not much else.

I'm not really looking for sex specifically and nor am I looking for a relationship specifically. In fact, I'm not quite sure exactly what I'm looking for lol. It could turn out that I'm looking for both of those things or perhaps I'm just looking for someone in a similar postuion to talk to and make friends with. I think that in a way I am looking for an equivalent to EC but with the potential of actually meeting people who may be local to me.

I'm not sure if it's against the rules to post links to websites etc so perhaps someone could send me a private message if they know of anything suitable and this post can be used for general discussion.
