I was reading this 2009 Scientific American article: Are there asexuals among us? On the possibility of a "fourth" sexual orientation And I found myself somewhat amused to read the following question: 'And how does one achieve orgasm--as some asexuals apparently do--without experiencing pleasure?' So now I wonder (a) what percentage of self-identified asexual spectrum folks experience orgasm and (b) what percentage find it pleasurable. Any guesses? Personal experiences? (For myself, I experience orgasm, but it's neither pleasant nor unpleasant, just neutral, kind of like a body sneeze, if that makes any sense. Can help with insomnia, but not something I'd go out of my way for otherwise.) Footnote: A publication of the Institute for Sexual Medicine, Orgasmic Anhedonia/ PDOD: Causes, suggests that this phenomenon may be related to dopamine regulation, at least in men.
