    Hello,

Not sure if this belongs here or the sexuality thread, but this is more of a discussion, so I'll ask here.

Can someone explain to me asexuality? And the different types?

What I know: The lack of sexual attraction to people

But then I've heard about more different types but don't really understand them, so I was wondering to ask.

    Thank-you.

It may not please some people for me to say this, but there really are no "different types". I'm aware of a proliferation of contrary opinions and ideas on the internet, but that's all they are - opinions and ideas. I would further assert that some of these opinions and ideas do more harm than good.

There is a widely accepted definition of asexuality and then there are lots of online opinions. Of course, people are entitled to opinions, but let's not confuse opinion for something else.

I'm not saying this to upset people or to attack their chosen label, but it does need to be said.

Well, you've got the basics right. Asexuality is commonly defined as the lack of sexual attraction, and asexuals do not experience sexual attraction towards anyone. However, there has been efforts to clear up that vague definition with varying amounts of success, most of which can be found on AVEN. However, there is a general consensus that asexuality does not stem from a) abuse, b) biological disorders or c) upbringing, although past trauma or problems with biology may contribute to some people identifying as asexual.

If you want a cursory understanding of what asexuality is, AVEN might be your best bet. It's a forum - the Asexuality Visibility and Education Network - and presents different people's views so you get what's going on in the community. However, it is not a good idea to take everything there is The Word of God because it's a forum, and people can post whatever the fuck they want to post.

The list of asexual spectrum identities is as follows:

Disclaimer: This is not the list of "official" acespec identities, but are some of the more commonly (if it can be called common) used identities and definitions in the ace community. This is not an exhaustive list, nor is it the official list, and I may have made mistakes. Everything should be taken with a healthy amount of salt, pepper and garnish.

Aegosexual/Autochorissexual: A person that experiences a disconnection between themselves and a sexual target/object of arousal, aka being aroused by porn but not wanting to participate in the depicted activities
Akoisexual/Lithsexual: A person who experiences sexual attraction, but does not want it reciprocated, or the attraction fades when reciprocated
    Apothisexual: A sex-repulsed person
Asexual: A person that does not experience sexual attraction
Cupiosexual: A person that wants a sexual relationship but does not experience sexual attraction
Demisexual: A person who only experiences sexual attraction after developing a connection or strong bond beforehand
Fraysexual: A person whose sexual attraction fades after meeting the target of their attraction (opposite of demisexual)
Gray-asexual: A person who experiences sexual attraction, but very rarely [Multiple definitions]
Quoisexual: A person who knows they're on the asexual spectrum, but not where, aka not fitting any of the above/below labels
