What is love?

Playing trains with my dad was my favorite thing to do as a toddler and now I have a full train room with two scales of trains! That play time is love itself and it makes a lasting impression!

Love is the warmth you experience when someone understands you, on a deep, personal, and emotional level. When they truly get who you are, and enjoy your company because of that, flaws and all. This can be love from a mother, a father, a sibling, a friend, or a life partner. Even dogs can show love in this way, because they can often pick up on the emotional state of their owners.

But in all seriousness, I would say love is something that is so broad, it cant be summed up in a single word. You can love eating chips, which is a different feeling to the love you receive from doing something that you love like listening to music, which is again a different type of love to spending time with someone that you love, which is different depending on how you know the person.

I mean, in Greek there are 4 different words for love that look at differing aspects of it, it becomes hard for me to talk about it sometimes, but all in all, its such a wonderful thing in any of its forms.

 

Friendship is close to love too! I love most of my friends and would drop a lot to help them.

 

A deep friendship, caring parents, a stranger doing something kind for you. These all stem from love. Love is motivated by the desire to be with others and to contribute to their happiness without ulterior motives. There are different degrees of love (asexual and romantic for example.) But all are based on respect of others, and the good times spent with them.

Love is something that makes you want to be around and protect people. Love in a romantic sense makes you bond with your lover and stay by them so you can raise your young, and spend your life with them. Love makes you want to protect. Your friends, your lover, your children. Because people need each other.

I think love is also unconditional acceptance. It's accepting someone (or something) with no expectation of something in return. One way I describe it is "accepting someone (something) just the way it is, and just the way it isn't."

I also bring up love for things other than people, because sometimes I think we can love our lives by choice. You can choose to say "I love this moment of my life, warts and all." Just saying that can be very powerful because it's an active choice towards what is rather than what you wish were so.
