Not ashamed, though. When I think about how homosexuality is found across the animal kingdom, I hate the thought of being one of nature's mistakes. The only rational way homosexuality makes sense would be population control - other than that, what's the use? I try reassuring myself that nature is based on and the master of mistakes, and lots of random stuff happens. Maybe there was a mutation millions of years ago. Actually, that verifies that homosexuality is part of nature.
Ah f*** it, Bonobos do it to anyone.

Nature constantly produces random traits, not all of which are adaptive or increase fitness, actually most aren't.
Still homosexuality has remained stable for millenia, so it must serve some kinda purpose, i hope we figure it out eventually.
But meh, speaking of bonobos, what if it's merely there for social bonding, strengthening groups and idk, resolving things more peacefully?
Bonobos seem to be doing well by having sex with almost everyone.

I don't really think that nature can make mistakes. Mutations, which are arguably mistakes, have caused evolution for millenniums! Where would we be without these "mistakes"?
People like to say that homosexuality is "unnatural", but what is really natural in today's society? Driving in cars and living in houses isn't natural. The internet? Television? Unnatural. But they've become part of our society! People, and animals, have been gay since before we even had a word to describe it. Just because there's no real way for it to make sense doesn't mean it's not wonderful and natural.
In my mind, having no clear purpose makes it even more amazing. Gay people don't fall in love for a real reason, we fall in love because we're in love. I think it's kind of magic, but that's just me

In the evolutionary environment, tendencies to homosexual desire were probably not sufficient to stop gay men and women from having opposite sex relations at least a few times in their life, even if for the sole purpose of producing children. Do not assume monogamy... As such it may be that homosexuality was no barrier to reproductive success until last century, and so less of a mistake than it might seem.
