Lane Moje (My sweetheart) is a Serbian song composed and sung by Zeljko Joksimovic.

Having musicians for parents and a Chilean father who's heavily into Bossa Nova music surely exposed me to a lot of latin american music growing up, but only a few months ago have I really started to explore it.

I really like Tom Jobim & João Gilberto

I also enjoy a lot of Japanese folk music; Ensemble Nipponia, Chieko Iwazaki, Yoshida Brothers etc

    Michio Miyagi is a mastermind

Here's some French trip-hop/experimental . Degiheugi, really good artist. French producers are probably my favourite modern musicians(meaning using new methods of making music)

Al Tarba has this really weird early 1900's circus music going on.

This is the modernised Traditional Igorot song and unfortunately I can't find the original. My grandma used to sing this song at home when she was still alive.

This band was popular back in the 60's and 70's and though they were heavily influenced by Classic/Folk and Reggae Rock but they're the first group to incorporate this genre in the Philippines.

I still haven't figured out the youtube things so here's a link to the maori haka which is a challenge that was preformed before battle. In our times it has been used by the national sporting teams of New Zealand as a challenge to the other team before competition

The French really know what they're doing.

If you like that you may like L'Orange. This type of music really would never be popular in North America, but Europeans generally like trip hop.

You may also like JIM, again from France.

    Also Jazz Liberatorz from Paris.

Here is some Colombian trip hop. Love Quantic they are really diverse.

I really like JIM a lot and Jazz Liberatorz too and I've only been exposed to trip hop from few artists but Portishead, Morcheeba and Telepopmusik especially Portishead since Dummy is one of my favourite album.

Here's a band from Thailand. Their style reminds me of Mogwai with a combination of Explosions in The Sky

One of my favourite hip-hop producers of all time, Nujabes (Japan). Strange to think he passed almost five years ago now.

Thought I'd add these guys from New Zealand, again not really specifically world music because it's from an English band, but it's definitely unique, and not really popular elsewhere. I think most New Zealanders will have heard of these guys

This song from Canada, sort of unique to Canada cause it's in French and English. It does have Canadian musical influence(French, Scottish, and English). North American Country music basically come from the United Kingdom and France

This is a band actually from Houston, American born, but Spanish influence, sings all in Spanish. They're awesome

This song is a highly slept on song from Brazil, actually can't believe it wasn't famous when it came out

Thought I'd add Slovenian artist; lives in the U.S Gramatik.

He does a variety of ethnic music, he does a lot of Balkan cause he is from there. It's all fusion though.

    So Balkan

    Indian

I liked that Euphoria and Taurus. Thanks everyone for sharing all these diverse tunes!

Some more gamelan. I wrote about it for my World Music course research paper, and it seems to come closest to the Eastern answer to the Western orchestra in terms of numbers of instruments. One neat fact is that the mallet instruments are made in pairs with slightly different pitches to create a shimmering quality to the sound ("ombak", or wave). Here's some nice, chill Sundanese pieces using the gamelan degung, a gamelan ensemble specific to the island of Sunda.

And last, but not least, a beautiful film song by one of the greatest bollywood singers, Lata Mangeshkar (note: she's not the actress!, most Indian film songs are actually sung by "backup" singers)

Same thing done in Turkish film industry in the past as well. Different actresses sung with the same voice. :icon_bigg

Just found this lovely gem. Enjoy.

Ochi Chernye ("Dark Eyes") A famous Russian song, sung by Ivan Rebroff

    Translation:
    1.
    Black eyes, passionate eyes,
    Burning and beautiful eyes!
How I love you, how I fear you,
It seems I met you in an unlucky hour!
    2.
Oh, not for nothing are you darker than the deep!
I see mourning for my soul in you,
I see a triumphant flame in you:
A poor heart immolated in it.
    3.
But I am not sad, I am not sorrowful,
My fate is soothing to me:
All that is best in life that God gave us,
In sacrifice I returned to the fiery eyes!
