I have not read Marx's Das Kapital, but I hear that it is a very well-thought out critique of capitalism, and more capitalists should read it (they would if they had no inherent bias against the whole idea of communism).

That being said, I think it is a fair judgment that communism as a political organizing force has been a dismal failure, and an incentive to tyranny. Capitalism, however, should not gloat over this, the reasons for its failure are not very flattering to humanity.

More important than these dichotomies is the nature of money itself in our own present world, it has unfortunately forgotten its proper place, which is secondary. Everything, and I mean everything, has been reduced to that very poor measure of value.

I'm just going throw something in here. I think communism has the right intentions, I just don't think it would work, animal farm style.

One day we will all be communists and capitalism and statism will be but a distant nightmare

I love the concept of communism! Even though I don't think it could work in most situations, there are a lot of places where I think that it would benefit a lot of people and create as equal a society as possible. Kaiser's argument pretty much sums up my reasoning.

Communism works in theory, but it just really just doesn't work in the long run. Without at least some free market to change with supply/demand of products, then the economy just comes crashing down.

Sorry, that was rude. What I meant to say was "that's never going to happen"

It places a bit more power in the hands of the government than I'd like to see. The means of distribution should be up to the people. I think certain forms of socialism might turn out a lot better.
