My sister's baby name book actually warns people not to pick names that invoke images of violence, darkness, pain or suffering. It explicitly reminds you not to name your child after a serial killer as well. I guess baby Adolf Bundy Murder Plague is out of the window Did anyone really need reminding of that? Have you heard of anyone calling their child something you personally thought was a terrible choice?
I recently saw an article about a couple who named their daughter "Abcde." Stuff like this is why we have a law in Sweden that stops people from naming their children something that is suspected to cause emotional agony later in life.
I believe it is pronounced "Ab-se-de."Phonetically speaking, it's not a bad name, but that spelling.... Makes your kid look like a fucking moron.
Fixed that for you . The 1st Amendment is pretty clear that that kind of law is unconstitutional in the US, but if I saw a bad case of baby naming like Abcde or otherwise, I'd like to see community support to force the parents to change their minds. Or better yet, look at it from an abuse standpoint. We can forcibly take kids out of harmful situations at home through child protective services; I think batshit names should cast a sickly light on the parents' competence to rear their kids. No particularly bad experiences with names for me, but bad spellings. A kid I mentored for a short period was named "Daunte." I like the name, but why not add in the familiarity and historical value of "Dante" without the U? They've set him up for quite a lot of misspellings.
My mother taught a girl who's name was Shithead..but it wasn't pronounced like that. it was (sh-thead) Terrible, right?
