Why is tumblr so not straight/cis?

It's not only just LGBT people but also some of the worst and most disgusting from our community. I feel ashamed to even go on there. And I think a lot of straight/cis people are there but they just don't attract enough attention and don't want SJW's to find them.

 

I think it's because Tumblr is a feminist-dominant community. However, the Tumblr community can be reaally harsh, especially since there is a lot of people who are homophobes, angry at the LGBTQ+ community. It's probably because you're on the other side of Tumblr where there is more of an LGBTQ+ community, and you see more gay/pan/bi/trans people there.

 

Tumblr is where the minorities go to gather.

Unfortunately its also where all the "kill all the white cis male" people go. There are some really great blogs out there, but also some really shitty ones.

 

I love Tumblr. In stages. I keep to certain things, mostly things are for sexuality and gender because it's a part of who I am and Tumblr draws quite a bit of attention, so if you're gonna talk about something it's not always a bad place to start. But also for things I like, such as movies and shows and books.

There are a lot of horrible people on there, too. People who think it's okay to say cruel things to and about anyone/thing they don't like and then rip into people who disagree. Which can be really horrible to witness and triggering in ways. So I tend to avoid it when it happens.

 

Think of Tumblr like outer space. There are many planets, with some nice stuff on them, and some are a bit barren and plain. You also have black holes, which is where you find the Social Justice Warriors and less than pleasant individuals. Black holes are fascinating to look at, so people notice them more often than, say, a rock floating in the middle of nothing.

There is some great art, .GIFs, and blogs there, but like with anything else, some folks take it too far. But don't worry too much, about 80% of those who are extreme and problematic, as soon as they log off their computers, they become passive-aggressive cry babies who won't do much but be resentful at their mediocre lives. Tumblr provides them with their temporary escape, for whatever reasons and whichever methods.

 

^agreed, you can't put tumblr in one box, tumblr is not one thing. In different corners of the website you'd be saying why is everyone cishet, or why is everyone naked, or why is that meme everywhere.

 

It wouldn't surprise me if 60% of those who claim to be LGBT with 67 mental health conditions are in fact not. Tumblr is a place where being gay is 'cool' and automatically grants you immunity in arguments also it is somewhere that mental illness is celebrated and romanticised.

I used to have a gay tumblr page, I gained 850 followers in 4 months but I closed it down after that as I was just getting properly weird posts, questions and messages.

 

Tumblr due to its nature attracts mentally unsophisticated people with low attention spans and propensity toward herd mentality.

I enjoy browsing the creepy, strange and hateful SJW pages there, but not for long. At some point the weirdness, lack of independent thought and cognitive dissonance becomes too much to bear.

 

I only use tumblr for one thing.

 

It's the home to far left politics. Just avoid outwardly hateful comments, but don't completely discount people before fully trying to understand their point of view. Until you realise it's just stupid.

It's also home to sociologists really. Phenomena they talk about (social justice) are studied in university, it's something with a strong backing. You will get extremists though, watch out for that.

I think a lot of is that a lot of parts of Tumblr nurse this whole culture of "how oppressed are thou?" The more oppressed or exotic your label is, the better your status on Tumblr is perceived to be. This is the home of the alloromantic pansexual hetereoflexible otherkin demi-gender fluid trans dog types after all. Honestly, I think the SJW-side of Tumblr is actually pretty harmful, especially when it comes to the younger members of the community. It encourages a dogmatic, vicious view of society where any and all opposing views are censored, regardless of intent. Honest to god, I've lost friends to the SJW mindset.

 

People shouldn't take it too far, yahp. But most are talking about legitimate things. I'm interested in your experience though, what situations made you lose friends? I'm simply curious.

There is something terribly juvenile about claiming to avoid a media space on accord of alleged social justice warriors or radical liberals. Those who feel so incredibly bothered by the sentiments that those groups hold clearly must not experience many other forms of negativity or hate within their lives. If you feel so victimized by a teenager taking out their frustrations with patriarchy, racism, classism, etc, in dramatic fashions on their little internet blog, then that speaks heavily on your emotional and intellectual resilience.

Even logically speaking, Tumblr is one of the largest social media platforms in existence. It is primarily home to art, photography, and entertainment blogs. If you don't wish to speak about social issues or politics within that space, then don't. It is truly that simple. I use a barren account to browse and follow certain public figures who I enjoy keeping up with, but the only true blog that I have ever ran was a literature blog with several thousand followers. Not once did social issues or ideology find its way into a feed on that blog.

I have had people criticize my race, expression, and sexuality on the internet simply for existing as such. Hell, I have experienced it in the real world. Not once, however, have I been walking down the street and cornered into a political debate or shared a picture of the ocean on the internet and been attacked by radical feminist. If you don't wish to deal with people who have certain beliefs or waste your time in certain debates, then don't. However, spending your time complaining about how these people are ruining social media or the modern era for you is nothing short of pathetic.

The first time, my best friend refused to talk to me after I was assaulted because telling her about what happened (and she was the only person I felt I could turn to) "triggered her" because she had read about other people being assaulted before.

Another friend blocked me after I tried to explain my point of view. I wasn't attacking her, wasn't trying to start anything. I'd been friends with this person for almost two years. And because I didn't agree with her idea that all men, by default, were automatically predators, she blocked me.

And no, I don't really feel it's always talk about legitimate things. Many advocates on Tumblr do address a lot of important issues like racism, LGBT discrimination, and so on. But I find the vast majority of the extreme SJW movement seems to focus on either things that really don't matter ("Sherlock and John Watson aren't in a gay relationship! That's homophobic!") or foster artificial boundaries between people ("are you a binary identified trans man or a non-binary trans man")

Also, Gen, i'm sorry to say but there's a pretty big subset of the SJW community that likes to hack or dox other people who don't agree with them. I also don't think many of these Tumblrinas have any real, fundamental understanding of how the world works.
