Knew about them since I was a kid. We called them 'transexuals' though, I remember latter being confused at all the different terms, transgender, transvestite etc. I didnt really give it much thought til I was older, but at this point I feel so comfortable in my body that I actually feel like I connect with Ftm guys because I'd fucking despise being a girl so much

Probably when I was around 12-13, remember reading about it somewhere on an internet forum and it spiraling from there; I learned much then.

I first ventured into the LGBT community when I was around 13 or 14.

I learned about the drag queens around 13 or 14 also.

At age 13 or 14 I thought that men who dress up as women only did so on recreational basis only.

I was around 17 when I realized that some men wanted to become women PERMANENTLY.

Strangely enough, probably the movie Mrs. Doubtfire. It didn't teach me a lot, but it was what introduced the concept to me.

Before and during that, there was the whole cross-dressing misconception, thanks to the likes of Bugs Bunny and, well, various sitcom scenarios.

I'm not sure really... I mean, I put older than 20 because I want to say I only really learned about it in the last few years... But I have been a part of this forum for longer than that, and I have known the term LGBT for a long time. I think I just never really thought abbout it... Also, I feel like this forum had substantially less transgender individuals when I first joined and only recently has the number increased, which caused me to learn about it. However, I may be mistaken.

I've known about transsexual and orientations for a while now, but I haven't known about transgender and the other gender possibilities until a month ago.

I voted 16-20, although it might have been earlier. But when I was a teenager is the best guess. (Keep in mind: I grew up during the 80s, and things were quite different back then. I learned what gay meant probably as a teenager, too.) I didn't fully understand it then, but it was about that time I learned that some people don't feel right with their "assigned at birth sex" and undergo surgery to change.

The first time I encountered the idea of transgendered people may have been reading an old magazine. It was written by a mother saying how saw her daughter for the first time when her daughter was, say 40. I immediately imagined some situation where she gave birth, possibly knocked out, and the baby was immediately adopted. But no, it was her child was a transgendered person. Thinking back, that article strikes me as perhaps having been a little sensationalist.

When I nearly went insane trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with me and why I was so different from all the girls. Finally, I found the word transgender and my mind was blown because that was it.

So yeah, I found out what trans meant when I realized I was trans.

Interesting. I never made that association. I always viewed it as Robin Williams playing dress up back then.

I don't remember how old I was when Chaz Bono first came out as trans, but that was the first time I had heard of a trans person.

    around 15.
I was trying to figure out why I was so happy when being treated as a girl, and want to live as a girl so much and start searching around. Then I figured out why.

Same, but it lead me down a path of learning about trans-issues. Other things did as well, but that was one of the first times seeing 'a man dressed as a woman' outside of a cartoon, so it didn't seem as 'comical', I guess?

When I watched an episode of Hollyoaks and one of the characters was FTM called Jason if I remember correctly. I'm not sure how old I was really. It feels like a long time ago to me anyway when I watched that episode. I don't tend to watch it though.

I think it was around when I was 13(?), so not that long ago. >.<

I was just searching around for videos on youtube, and I guess I had just somehow come across videos relating to transgender issues/that sort of thing.

I'm actually really kind of disappointed that I didn't know about it sooner, y'know? Oh well though XD

I can't remember my exact age but probably a teenager. It was an episode of Oprah. She had on a MtF person (I think her name was Jenny) and her wife. I thought it was interesting but also a little weird. Over the years as I became more informed on the subject, I felt less weird about it and now I think it's perfectly normal.

Eh, maybe nine or so when I heard that GRS was a thing. I must have been 14 or so when I first encountered trans people online.

I honestly have no clue. Definitely later than gay people. Maybe 14.

    Probably by late teens.
