Normally, it takes a lot to creep me out with music. I can listen The Shining soundtrack just for fun. But for some reason, Swans crosses the line. I like it, but it sounds like it comes straight from hell.

What music do you consider the most terrifying?

I like music box music, so it takes a lot for it to spook me with that. If it does, I normally find it hauntingly beautiful or just pretty in a weird way.
However, it's normally music boxes NOT intended to be creepy that get me. Speaking of which.... *digs for music box grandmother gave me*.

Music that scares me a lot is Amnesia's music. While I've never played it (I don't have a working PC and I'm pretty sure it's PC exclusive) I've seen others do so, and I looked up the soundtrack. I found a track called "Terror" which is chase music.
I swear to god.... if it ever just randomly started playing while I was walking alone at night, I'd turn around and punch the brute in the D*CK!
"Remnant Search" from the custom story "The Great Work" is terrifying too. I found "Remnant" pretty scary as a monster too, though the scrapped "Mongrel" would have been HORRIFYING, especially if they'd used "Jouzai" from "Elfen Lied" as music that played when he was nearby. The scraping, clanging noises in that song and his hammer would have worked nicely, but alas! Copyrighted. And, as I said, the mongrel was scrapped.
A lot of creepy music from anime gets me too, like "Jouzai" as I mentioned earlier.
It takes a lot to get me, but hauntingly beautiful, subtle ominous , loud and grating and music that uses random sounds as it's main sound gets me all the time.
AND THE COMBAT MUSIC FROM BIOSHOCK!!! AAAAHHH!!!

Having played both Amnesia and Bioshock, yes. For me it's more contextual with those. If I'm not playing the game, I won't get freaked out. But if I'm running out of oil for my lantern and "Terror" suddenly starts playing, or if I'm getting beaten down by a Big Daddy, the music is a lot scarier.

And "Jouzai" is a weird combination of creepy and awesome.

I'm glad you brought this up, yeah.. I definitely have this weird phobia of certain hyms, or music, It started a few years back.. but I have kinda a phobia you could say, of the Russian National Anthem & other Russian or even Soviet era related music, something about them creeps me to the core.. like chills blanket my head to the rest of my body:icon_eek: it's bizarre, I dunno know if it's the way the choir sings, or the choir themselves, or just the overall theme.. scares the pants off me, hearing that stuff.

In my opinion, Dark Psychedelic Trance, is the music genre with the best horrifying atmospheres. Music can influence my hallucinations, so that might catch me off guard, but it's usually more annoying than scary. I've never heard a song that freaked me out by itself. However, many songs have made me tear up, so that's something.

I have to admit it doesn't take much to scare me. If it's overly sugar-coated and false I find it to be almost creepy in a way.

The weirdest songs that creep me out are "Animals" by Maroon 5 and "We are young" by Fun. I don't know why but I find the "na na na na" bit of we are young a bit unsettling, it just sounds so cheerful, it sounds fake. I don't know how to describe it really, but the first time I heard that bit of the song I felt a bit uneasy. Which is a shame because I like the song, but just not that bit. Idk I'm weird. (!)

Songs like "Animals" have VERY "fake" vocal productions in the studio. I don't think the song sounds cheerful, but it's production has a lot of.......frosting on it.

When I was talking about it sounding cheerful, I meant the "we are young" song by Fun rather than the "animals" one, just to clarify. And not the whole song just the "na na na na" bit. Ugh, *shivers cringing*

When it comes to scary music, I love the feeling, and nothing works better for me than the Silent Hill soundtracks by Akira Yamaoka. I love the way it gets under my skin and crawls around, leaving me severely uncomfortable with the experience. I have all the songs from the first four games on my iPod.

    It always gives me goosebumps.
... It's also been my ringtone since I was 15 or so.

The movie is super creepy, and I guess I associate the ringtone with it.
(didn't care much for the american version though)

Naughty Boy ft. Sam Smith - La La La freaks me out.

I used to find Strange Fruit, well, almost any song by Billie Holiday extremely haunting, but I love her music now.

I also think 99% of EDM music is horrifying, but I do like a bit of SHM.
