Feminism discussions are like porn. Over time, they get repetitive, and you can see where they are going. Here is a position, let's change to another position. Then to keep things a bit more interesting, people throw in seemingly related issues, just like the number of porn channels. But the essence will always the same.

    Wow...

First off The LGBT/Racial issues point and the Focuses only on women point were two seperate and unrelated points I was making. I was saying feminism, through intersectionality, tries to lay claim to other people's issues ( as opposed to offering support like any other movement would do ), and when it does come to gender feminism focuses only on women's issues with the passing remark about something relating to men.

I completely disagree with almost everything you had to say about patriarchy

Patriarchy- a system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it.

In terms of power women are, as I said, the majority of voters so the argument could fairly be made that they hold more political power. Now what about exclusion? Well in the areas where the quota isn't met ( so to speak ) Companies and fields of study such as STEM are bending over backwards desperately trying to get more women interested but they simply choose not to get involved which means they aren't excluded they just don't hold the same priorities.

    Anyways

My point here is simply this. Women can do whatever they want and no one is going to stop them or even try to ( unless it's something crazy like murder people ). Most places, at least in the US, at this point are desperate to meet whatever gender quota.

There isn't some mass subconcious effort by all of society to belittle and beat down women, that's completely insane.

Your litmus test for feminism is intriguing.

You basically want a society where people can present, do, and be whatever/whoever they want without anyone throwing a fit about it, yes?

    Same here but...

Where you say patriarchy I say Christianity and puritanical values of a 2,000 year old book.

If you take Christians ( and Muslims ) out of the equation you're left with like almost no one opposed to how men choose to present or women for that matter.

I'm gay, I'm married to a transwoman, I'm a proud hairy feminist, and I think gay guys are pretty rad. I mean... anybody can be a misogynistic asshole - including women. I'm sure there are some pretty sexist gay guys out there. But I don't think it's because they're gay. That mindset is because they're victims of a machismo society just like everybody else.

Sexist society hurts everybody, and actually I think it hits gay men really hard, because it perpetuates gay stereotypes, especially the idea that gay men are like women. It's hurtful to all of us. That's why feminism is so important! If we destigmatize femininity, we free everybody to be who they are! And that includes big masculine guys, too, I promise. Seriously, it just makes everyone's life easier.

Tbh, I clicked out of the video after five seconds... I don't really want to watch something that lumps all 'gay men' together like they're all the same and I find this really frusterating. Too many people say that lesbians are man haters, and this is just the same thing.

    Unnnnnng, it is annoying. :eusa_doh:

I agree with Awesome. A few of you really need to look up the definition of feminism.
Some of you are judging it based on extremes, just as many straights judge being gay by the extremes. Of course, women resent this.
