I clicked on the link and my computer generated a popup error message that said, "god, I love you, my steamy bear!" The options were "ok" and "cancel," I just hit okay the the computer seemed pleased. What geek score would you call that?

Did you view the page source to try to figure out what caused the error?
Did you try different browsers to see if that made any difference?
Did you try a different computer running a different OS?
Did you try a traceroute even though it would be irrelevant?
Did you do a WHOIS lookup on the domain just to be nosy?

These would affect your geek score more than whether you clicked OK or Cancel.

I got this.... Definitely not a computer geek. You probably don't even know what a computer is. Say it with me COM-PU-TER.

47% scored higher (more computer geeky),
    1% scored the same, and
    52% scored lower (less geeky).

    Whatever that means.

I do it quite a lot too. It's surprising what you can find out from them sometimes. A lot of people don't realise all their details are there for everyone to see unless they opt to hide them.

Probably due to your answers to the questions about what you're doing at 3am... I had to choose "sleeping".

There is obviously something missing from the A-Level courses. You need to speak to the college about the serious lack of geek training in that course.

    Incidentally I am completely self-taught geek. (!)

Haha true, for both of those I chose "playing in a MMORPG" :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Also, I think it's also just the way the quiz was written...so many of the answers seemed to be tailored for me, lol. I was seriously getting paranoid after a while, like, "did my brother write this?!"

I did use tools when I felt the geek factor called for them, like a binary converter, a calculator, etc. I did cheat once, I'll admit! I just completely forgot what that, er, "picture of a computer" was called (don't wanna give it away). I had known at some point, but was just drawing a blank.

Also, do you program? I was able to answer yes to a lot of the programming language questions, although I did check "not fluent" as I've kinda given up on programming because, well, it's a pain in the ass :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Regardless, despite the variance in our scores, we are both still members of the Brotherhood of Geeks! *secret geek salute!*

Actually, you even have to be careful with private registration. Certain registrars...I think GoDaddy is one of them because, well, they.. *must...resist...urge to flame* anyway, the way they "hide" your info temporarily changes ownership of your domain over to the registrar as a company. Working at Network Solutions, this created problems with Inbound CRAs, as they were unable to transfer the domain because the registrant technically wasn't the owner anymore.

We have a PO Box address which I use for domain registrations, together with the company name (though not a registered company or anything) we trade as. Nothing hidden but nothing very useful either. A lot of domain registrars register domains as themselves instead of you, which means they have you by the whatsits if you want to change or transfer it. There are a lot of, shall we say, "dubious practices" in the domain registration business - but that's for another thread.

It's gone midnight so this geek is going to bed now (I do have to be up at 7am for work)...

In that case, you deserve extra credit, hehe! Binary converters scream "geek" to me, since my brother and I used to e-mail one another whole messages encoded in binary, hehe! It added an element of fun to checking our e-mail ^^
