how would you react?

i figured that this would be the best place for the following inquiry, seeing as it relates to the topic of "technology", albeit loosely:

How would you react to a non-biological sentient entity that developed the traits of a biological sentient entity?

Personally, I would be completely acceptant of a being such as this, and if it were in my means to do so, I would try to make such a being as mu like humans as I could.

So I ask again, how would you react and if you had the means, how would you help this entity?

    What does that mean?

I think such a being might be a cool friend to have around. Who knows how any of us would respond, depending on the circumstances and how we meet this person thingy? I'd like to think I'd be accepting.

I'm assuming your talking about an AI being? That depends.

If its an AI that has the capability to upload itself to the internet and see the good and bad aspects of humanity laid bare would it be willing to accept US?

On the internet there is documents of our sometimes violent history, files or documents on our most dangerous and sick minded criminals plus all the cyber bullying comments on forums and video channels. I know that that is just a small minority or fraction of humanity and its past/nature, but would the new life form be able to see past all that if it were to learn of these facts?

If it was willing to tolerate us despite this then i in turn would tolerate it and all its own uniqueness and flaws. I rather liked this question.

If it had true sentience and brainpower on par with humans, we'd have no choice but to consider it as we would any organic person. At that point it should have basic "human" rights and cease to be treated as property. It would be tough to think of a computer as an equal living being, and probably pretty scary. But if we didn't, we'd do it(him/her?) a disservice and would actually be guilty of unfair discrimination.

Tons of sci-fis have already explored the effect of sentient AIs on society, but it's still an awesome and very relevant subject.

Basically a robot that had feelings? I'd rather like that.

Data and the EMH in Star Trek have both taught me very valuable philosophical lessons about treating sentience as equal to humans and not discriminating. I would try my best to help the AI adjust to the unfamiliar world around it, and I would try my hardest to forge a friendship with it, since I think we could learn a lot from each other.

    okey dokey.

But now that I think about it, HAL 9000 was never really sentient.

Id rather have Johnny 5 from short circuit. i heard there remaking that but making him an AI whose on the run in cyberspace hiding in various machines rather than a single robotic body, but that was last Christmas and ive heard nothing since. still good idea.

But having your own personal Stephen Merchant would be wonderful!

Edit: Note that a hilarious little robot Stephen Merchant is even better - and more amusing - than the real thing.

No thanks on the Wheatley. He would probably destroy my refrigerator. I'd rather have a PotaTOS.

I'd say I'd be okay with it, unless it was something like my toaster, I wouldn't exactly be too thrilled if my toaster started telling me that I needed to clean it -_-

On the serious side, if it were a robot, an android or whatever, of course I would, I'd try to make them feels s good as possible! and help them feel more human

This thread reminded me of this video from a game or something, it was in one of my videogame magazines, where androids were being made and sold to people, one was switched on while being assembled and it had emotions, was detirmined to be a glitch, and was being disassembled, and at the last second, the manager decided to let her go...

I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT THAT WAS FROM, it was on my digital copy of Game Informer that I used to get.

    Haha, Chibi...
But the reason for this thread is because of "The Positronic Man"(book)/"bicentennial Man"(movie)
