Microsoft Surface RT for Education? Is it worth it?

I'm not referring to the 2nd microsoft surface tablet that is being released soon. My school is having a special student discount promotion for the 1st tablet ending this Friday and i was wondering what are people's opinions of the 1st surface RT tablet as i really need to own my own tablet for tutorial classes as well as listen to music on the go. So is it worth the money? Is it easier to use than say an Ipad? Should i buy the cover keyboard along with it?
