So Apple had a tech event where they announced new iPads. The iPad is now thinner and that's the only difference. The iPad mini now costs $300 and you can get the Retina display model for $400. Yet the iPad 2 still is being sold for $200. Also apple released Mavericks as a free OSX upgrade.

It seems like Apple just is doing small catch up upgrades that aren't significant. Has Apple stopped innovating since Steve Jobs has died?

I thought they stopped innovating after the first versions were released...?

They have definitely run out of ideas.
Everyone thought they were going to go all out on these iPads and put the TouchID on the iPads and everything...

I think Apple is still in the process of trying to rediscover itself. The company's spirit did take a hit when Steve Jobs passed away but that wouldn't mean that they will stop innovating. Besides, Apple is fairing much better than most other consumer tech companies today and those companies would love to have introduced at least one revolutionary product in their lives. Apple's tech is great but now they need to focus on getting it to as many people possible and they're doing that by offering their new OS version for free along with the iLife apps. As far as the TouchID sensor goes, perhaps many are still freaking out over the NSA spying fear and Apple is usually reluctant to adopt these kinds of technologies. The iPad is a great device, how much more thinner could it possibly get? I still use an old first generation iPad to take notes and it's still (to me) the most amazing portable device I've ever used. With Macs and iDevices lowering gradually in pricing, more and more people are being introduced to the technology and love to see how it benefits them especially those who otherwise would not have bought them because of expensive price tags.

Honestly, I think Jobs was just a master salesman. Apple is very good at what they do, but what they do isn't inventing radically new stuff. Tablets, smartphones, laptops etc... all existed before apple ever started producing them.
What they did do was taking the original version and polishing it and upgrading the design to the max and giving it an intuitive interface.

Now, Jobs was very good at presenting them as if it was the first time anyone had this idea, ever. And it was certainly an idea that was appealing to a lot of people. You aren't buying just a tablet, you're buying a lifestyle.

His successors have been less up to the job of giving it the same aura, but I think that's more a matter of style than substance.

I've always wondered why Steve Jobs looks so crabby/constipated in any photos you see of him.Millions of dollars later, and it's as if he could never manage a smile.

Always got a creepy vibe from Apple, especially with Jobs and his moralizing statements, such as "Imagine a porn-free internet"

    Imagine censorship, as well.

Apple is best at inventing. Let's be honest.....they really started the tablet trend. They started the "smartphone" like we know it today, being a more useful item and not just a business phone.

I'm a big apple fan. Am I satisfied with the current product line up? Ehh. Not early ally. That doesn't mean I've completely given up. I have faith that they will find their way.

I never really got swayed by Apple. Then again I'm not crazy about gadgets. Apple will come up with something. They are simply taking their sweet time. Companies tend to make small modifications of their products before releasing a brand new one. The idea is to make more money.

I've never been big on Apple. I personally think all their shit is way overpriced, and that they kind of sway buyers into always needing the newest product. Macs are the "stylish" PCs. I'm not saying they're not good, as their systems are better than average and are for the most part innovative and unique, I just think they're overrated.

With that out of the way, yes I definitely think they've run out of ideas. Before Jobs came around, Apple was just an ordinary, lame little business. The Jobs made the company what it is today. And now that he's six feet under, Cook is running around like a chicken with his head cut off, trying to through shitty new products at us. I like what Apple did with their tablet, I really do. But this "air" thing seems almost mocking. Kinda like "haha, you assholes will buy any old shit from us."

If you ask me, they're going right back to where they were before Jobs. I doubt they'll ever get to Linux unpopular choice, but they're definitely going downhill. They need some better players on their team, as they clearly don't have the competitive skills to battle with Microsoft at the moment.

I mean I heard somewhere that Apple had a 5 year plan to run Apple after Steve Jobs passed away. They threw that out the Window. He was against the iPad mini idea (although he was wrong about that) and also was against the iPod touch loop. I could go on..

10 Changes That Must Have Steve Jobs Rolling In His Grave

Anyways it makes me wonder. With Google being the new Microsoft in a lot of ways, will they ever slowly dominate the computer market. I mean if they do, chrome os won't cut it.

I think people expect too much of Apple. They've certainly released "game changers" that have shook up entire categories of products but it's not like they're going to do that with every single product release, especially when they're not really even unveiling entire new products but just upgrades from the last generation. I'm pretty sure every other tech company does the same with their products but they aren't ridiculed for not being "innovative".

One thing I dislike about Apples new iPad rollout is the pricing though - The iPad 2 is actually selling for a whopping $399, not $200. That's just $100 under the new iPad Air which is 3 generations newer and far superior in every way and the same price as the new iPad Mini with Retina and all of the new 64 bit processors, etc. The iPad 2 doesn't even have a retina display.. And they've also upped the iPad Mini's price by $70 for the newest generation. I'm not usually one to call Apple products overpriced but that's definitely overpriced considering what you get lol.

I like Microsoft as well as Apple. Prior to buying my mac, I used to have the same mentality Microsoft users have... overpriced, overrated, non-innovative, underpowered, etc... but when I purchased my new mac, I worshipped it.

not gonna lie, I spent about an hr just staring at it's beauty.

It's not the same looking at someone with their ipads, macs, iphones until you have one for yourself. When the product is yours, you know that it's above anything else. Suddenly, any laptop carrying windows just doesn't compare to a mac.

Same with the iphone, the design is perfect, and the screen (although it's smaller size compared to the competition) is absolutely magnificent.

In terms of innovation, Apple only has a one year window from product to product. They don't have that many products to change like HTC or motorola or HP do... they can only get better with what they already have established.

In the new ad, John Ive says that this new "ipad air" has been in development for some several years... i'm pretty sure he's lying. The ipad, just like all of their other products, already has an established design. That's why their designs only change by a small margin, and of course technology (new processors, screens, etc) will always account for a bigger price tag.

I think Apple is innovative, even if it's just by decreasing the ipad's form factor. Every little bit counts, and it is noticeable when you hold an apple product in your hands.

Nobody has any life changing ideas anymore. Well, they do, but we just don't have the technology we need to make them. I think we should all calm our tits and these people need to stop worrying about new innovations when we should really be thinking about ways to upgrade the technology behind new innovations. It's like, you can't make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the peanut butter. Same with the jelly. They all work together.

I don't like Apple very much. Their stuff isn't really compatible with anything else, which is a cardinal sin in my opinion and it's not innovative either. Everything they produce already exists, only sold in smaller volumes, possibly less stylished, but often cheaper and better. Apple is only marketing and they hate things like privacy, open-access, compatibility and other unprofitable stuff : (

Don't forget the litigation - they love to sue everyone else, trying to prevent them from innovating too.
