So I have resurrected a 7 year old Laptop I have had since I was 16 just to play older games like Flight Simulator etc. but it runs XP but with MS pulling it next year I don't know what I should do with it.

XP was great. But I don't even use pcs anymore unless it's work related. My phone is practically a desktop.

There's an XP desktop on Win 8 that I use often. Some games will run that way that wouldn't run otherwise.

You know. I'm not gonna lie, I think XP has my favourite this far. XP was just so reliable. And dandy. And the sounds

But yeah, I'm on seven now.

You mean they made different ones after it?!

Still using it. I'm not a gamer, so I never saw any need for anything more baroque.

XP is cool, I'll probably use it until I get a new computer.

You have a few options. If you are just running games that don't rely on an internet connection, you could just disconnect the internet connection from the computer. Really, with XP, that's where the risks are going to come from. Also, XP is going to be relatively safe after the final patch, until about when the next patch for Vista/7/8 is out. This is because there is still a lot of code that overlaps between them, and someone will reverse engineer the patch to find the vulnerabilities. But, I wouldn't be surprised if there are other 3rd parties that will try to adjust the patches to work on XP.

I can play Flight Simulator on Win7 perfectly fine.

I hated XP, can't believe people still use it tbh. While XP is universally loved, I still remember when it first came out and people hated it. (just like they did with every new OS, so it's nothing out of the ordinary)

M$ pulling it means absolutely nothing, your computer will continue to work perfectly fine.
I say use the laptop until it dies completely LOL.

    I still use both win-XP, and win-98se.

Yep, at the moment I've got an old Dell Latitude running XP that my mum uses most of the time, a Thinkpad T61p running Win 8 (lol!) and a 2012 Compaq Presario running vista (or Vistaaargh! as me and my friend call it. Having said that, it seems to be OK. That Compaq can hardly be called a powerhouse...)

Until last year, the PCs in my school's music room still ran Windows 2000! And we had to use them for Audio/Video encoding/editing :eusa_doh::bang:

    Still better than Vista.
XP supports a surprisingly large library of games.
It also supports a lot of old software that 7 doesn't.
I'm a 7 user now, but XP is definitely one of the better OSs.

We still use XP at work. Considering I work in a dying industry (postal service), we probably won't get upgraded for a long time. Supposedly, some of our mail processing equipment still run on Windows 3.1 and OS/2, but like they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I still remember the days when XP was a resource hog of an OS with compatibility problems... While development hell Vista had fallen into was bad for Microsoft, it was the best thing that happened to Windows OS ever. Now, they re back to they old routine of rolling out the new buggy version just when the old one becomes really polished and good.

And yes, I'm still using XP, not planning to switch anytime soon.
