Hello, wondering if any tech savvy people here may be able to help me?
My iPhone 5s has stopped charging:
    - when I plug it into the plug adapter via the lightening cable, it does nothing
    - when I plug it into my laptop (windows 7), my computer makes the noise like it has been connected, then flags up something about a driver. I've looked at other advice elsewhere and tried to do so and so with installing the driver again etc etc but nothing has worked so far.
When iTunes is open, it hasn't registered as connected.
If I plug my phone whilst it is off - into my computer, it turns my phone on (but doesn't charge it) and still says "USB Device Not Recognised".
I thought it was a cable issue until this happened (I have ordered a new one from eBay anyway because I thought that was the problem).
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thank you

    Can you factory reset it?

    Something wrong with the coding?

That or you have a defective battery?

It was fine until just recently - it is not old at all! A couple of months is all.
I don;t think I can factory reset it because iTunes will not recognise it as connected?

You can do it on the phone itself... Assuming you have enough battery to turn it on and do it.

Yea, it does, but I am not sure what other option you have. Try calling the apple store or something otherwise.

yeah, ok thanks for your ideas. I think I might wait at least until I can try a different or new cable - I'd rather wait and see than lose everything and find out it was just the cable! I really would rather not do a factory reset! :/

Yea try your cable first. Also you should back your phone up on your computer every so often.

I do have a fairly recent back up (although not as recent as I would like if I do end up having to do a factory restore!)

Not to get into the whole Android vs. Apple war here, but my Android phone backs up photos and stuff to Google automatically, into a private album. That way, if I have to factory reset my phone (which I'm thinking about doing, while the battery charges, the battery life has recently become abysmal - not sure what app is doing it :frowning2: ) I lose nothing essentially. The worst part is having to download all the apps and music again.

I thought Apple had a similar arrangement?

Yeah, this whole iCloud thing - but I'm not really sure what I have that doing. documents, pictures, contacts, everything... I really have no idea.

you can log into icloud.com and take a look, it will show you the content you have backed up. Might be worth a look see... Double check that cable against a working one. I've found most of my users that have problems charging their phones simply have bad cables or dead wall nuggets (I handle ~150 wireless phones for my office at work).. And this advice goes for Android or Apple devices. Though I love the Qi wireless charging on my Droid Maxx.

Thanks everyone for your help. Thankfully all is fine with a new cable. I just thought it was odd that it still registered in the computer but never mind! Thanks everyone

I use iCloud for my contacts, some email, and that's really where the buck stops. I take a shit ton of photos, so it's kind of pointless. The nice thing about it is that you can access it from anywhere - so if you ever have a dead phone or something, you can login to icloud and presto!

Hope it all worked! Chargers seem to work great for some time, then just decide to not work...at all, especially if they aren't straight from Apple.
