So me and a friend are collaborating on a video game together. We are writing the story right now and long story short. I want you to have to kill a little girl in the end stopping the creation of a cult. Is if too dark to have you shoot a little girl? There will be an option either to kill the little girl or get shot. So is too dark to have you kill the little girl?

Uuuuum yes? I personally wouldn't do it, buy it, I could never do that in a game, that would be an attention grabber but also get a whole ton of crap for that so tread lightly.probably not the best option but it depends on what your doing with it and how you do it, there is a reason in games you can't kill children its kind of frowned upon.

Nah. Nothing is too dark in a videogame. Besides, most videogames have choices with questionable morality, so...

I'd say I've done worse in video games, so no I don't think it's too dark.

Not to me. I've seen darker in games. And really, one isn't that bad in a game.

Depends what the rest of the storyline is, I think it'd be an interesting game (leading up too, not because of the end). I play a lot of horror games and there's always weird crap in those xD

You could skin the girl alive and it wouldn't be too dark for a lot of people...I don't think you'd ever get a rating mind you xD

A lot of video-games get crap for random stuff. Also, cults being involved I think the darkness of killing children would be expected.

I know that but the fact a child is murdered would get a lot of it and when things get to a certain type of dark they get a ton stuff thrown at it not saying all of it is valid. Heck look at Man Hunt for example, look at the controversy. I personally wouldn't play it just not a fan of that genre, but its freedom to be creative so I don't really care otherwise, it his choice.

Not at all. Bioshock has you suck the life essence out of little girls, leaving them in grotesque, writhing maggot form. Simple killing is well-worn territory.

I think shooting a kid is going to bring a hell of a lot of shit your way. I mean just look at the reaction MW3 got for the truck bomb scene during it's campaign.

You can get away with it but your set up and story has to be incredibly good. The only games I can think of that have portrayed children dying and not suffered any blowback are The Walking Dead and Bioshock, so that gives you an idea of what you're shooting for in terms of quality.

If you're just doing for shock value then don't bother.

I don't really see the problem, although I usually go evil in videogames, then good later on. There has been darker though, and you won't get major complaints if you set it up well.

I think it would create a really powerful moral dilemma for the player. Go against everything you've been taught to believe, but save the world (?) or stick to your morals and die. Personally, I'd probably kill the girl, but there will be a lot of people who will have kittens over the decision. Besides, kids die all the time in zombie movies and the like. We just don't usually see them getting ripped to shreds.

    Plus it's a game. She's pixels.

Yeah, the controversy could distract from the game itself.
