I have had my laptop since I started college which was almost 6 years ago. Many people keep mentioning that I should purchase another one. However, I would like to keep it. My issue at the moment though is whether or not it would be best to get an entirely new battery or just get a new laptop. I am questioning because there is nothing wrong with the laptop I have now, except the battery is pretty much dead so I have to have it plugged in all the time. It sucks because I can never take it to class without plugging it in. I have tried replacing the battery and it only lasted not even 2 months and then I was back to where I started.

Any who what is your take on this?

Should I get a new laptop or just try another battery?

What kind of laptop is it?
    It's still pretty speedy?
Where'd you get the battery from last time?

    I believe it is this one. Acer Extensa 5630-4250 - 15.4" - P T3200 - Vista Home Premium - 3 GB RAM - 250 GB HDD Overview - CNET

Yeah, I have gotten it cleaned out a bit. It still functions pretty well. I don't know how to compare it to others since I really have never used any other type of laptop.

I was trying to purchase it from the manufacturers, but no luck. I ended up getting it from a company on Ebay.

You could get new battery and it would work fine. But sooner than later something else probably will go wrong since it 6 years old. If you can afford it, get a new laptop.

If the laptop still gets the job done, why not consider a new battery? Not everyone needs the latest and greatest technology. I tend to trail way behind the techology curve, but what I use is more than good enough for what I need to do.

The only problem is that, given age, there is the chance of something going seriously wrong with the laptop at some point in the near future that is not worth fixing. But if the battery is cheap enough, it would be (for me, at least) a worthwhile gamble.

Absolutely, I agree with you, but age definitely plays a factor in this, if the laptop was year or two newer I would say just get a new battery. But because age (six years)there is a chance of something else going wrong with it.

If you can afford it, I'd highly recommend getting a new one. I had the same computer for six years - mine was a wreck by the time I replaced it. It sounds like your computer is holding out better than my previous one did, but getting a new computer is so rewarding.

I would highly recommend getting a new laptop. Yours has had its share, but it is time to upgrade. I tend to replace my devices every couple years to keep them like new, and I would buy an external hard drive to store essential data so you can easily and comfortably switch devices to and Fro.

Another vote for a new laptop. The issue(s) with your current one will only get worse and cost money for bandaid fixes. You can get a great laptop for a around 400-500 bucks.
