I'm interested in buying LaCie's 20TB external hard drive. However: 1) Does one have to put 5 small Toshiba hard drives into the 5 slots in the back of the EHD? And: 2) I was on Yahoo Answers, and a user said that LaCie's largest EHD is only 8TB and not 20TB. Is that true?
Hai :3 I looked, and apparently it's just a 20TB hard drive array. Pretty good transfer rate. I am curious why you need it, though. I haven't figured out how to use 500GB of space, much less 20TB.
Well I use up memory on regular laptops at a pretty fast rate. I've had 5 laptops since 2007 (3 HPs, a MacBook Pro, and a Toshiba laptop). However, both my Mac and my Toshiba got stolen, so now until I get another laptop, all I have is my iPhone 4 that keeps acting suspicious.
Disk is still really slow. If you're using up memory really fast, why not upgrade your RAM? Virtual paging/swap still suxxors.
Well I didn't think I could. And I don't have a laptop yet, so once I get one, I'll upgrade. Do you have any suggestions as to what amount of RAM I should upgrade to?
I don't really know what your workload is. Do you just surf the web, or do you like computer games? Are you editing music and video?
Do you really have to have LaCie? +1 to what you're actually wanting to do. If you're getting a 20 TB hard drive, you might as well think about cloud storage.
LaCie is kinda overpriced. You're probably better off building a NAS and using some decent, cheap hard drives (WD Blacks are supposedly quite good).
What would you need 20 tb for? Are you building a server or something? I haven't even been able to use my 2tb up yet.
I have a LaCie. In general I have noticed the larger capacity hard drives have a higher failure rate. This makes me sad because I go through hard drive storage like crazy.
I'm in the middle of dealing w/ LaCie right now.. Have a 1TB Porche design mini external hard drive. It died on me a little while ago. I now have to send it back to them so they can inspect it, and fix/replace it.... They seem to have very high fail rates...
